Did they sign up for a $115 min fee using no power?

They signed up to purchase power.

I feel sorry for their ops team. Most of them are good people, and I know they probably roll their eyes at their own company's leadership on the reg.

Entergy almost feels like a Louisiana state government entity at times.

And purchasing the power has costs associated with it This isn't some groundbreaking revelation. Entergy's costs have gone up, so their fees have gone up. Just about every business on the planet operates that way.

Ugh.

It's kilowatt-hour, not kilowatt.

A watt is a measure of power. Energy over time. Not a measure of consumption.

Nerd out.

Sometimes I think they'd be better off just pricing those fees and fuel adjustment charges into the KW price.. People are dumb.

Depends on what the energy company is spending to deliver you power, that's why the fees change.

Entergy very quietly announced it's adding a new fee, a substantial penalty for failing to consume any power over the course a billing cycle, all customers will be billed a $25/month fee for administrative costs to oversee the new program.

Coming soon to a bill near you.

Irrelevant question is irrelevant. If you have a pay by the gig data plan for your phone, you are going to get a minimum bill even if you use no data.

They purchased the option to use power. The power was still delivered to the point where they turned the main breaker off. Still generated, still sent to the station and substation, still moved down lines to their main breaker.

Are you under the impression that is all free? Or they could bake it into their usage fees instead of a fixed fee that goes away at some point in time.

I could understand a small admin fee of $25 or something. Not $115. With two places right now, my power bill is less than $100 total.

Power companies should not have monopolies over certain areas. If people had a choice between multiple companies there is no way prices would be so high.

They have their snout AND all four hooves in the trough apparently.

When you build a house, you pay for the lines from the street to tap into water, sewer, and electricity. You pay a one time a fee to buy garbage and recycling bins in some areas. But only Entergy charges you fees in perpetuity even if you don't use any services.

Would it have made a difference if they had the meter removed?

Well when your area gets hit with a major natural disaster and a lot of your provider's infrastructure needs to be rebuilt ASAP, perhaps you will understand.

It's not a perfect system, but do you really expect any company to just eat all of those costs?

You pay when your garbage and recycling cans are damaged and you need new ones though
