The guy who handles my investments dreams about living on a boat and just sailing around the world when he retires, but he said his wife tells him, "No way."

Very lucky he scraped the keel off that horrible boat in 3 feet of water rather than in the Florida straits during a storm.

What was the vegan going to eat if they had to stay at sea for a while? All the rationed peanut butter? These donations are only going to encourage them to keep making poor decisions.

Edit: I was assuming she would not eat fish If that was the only option. Though I doubt they could catch a fish and skin it and cook it.

And who believes a 28' sailboat is suitable for sailing the world?

Circumnavigating the globe in 28' or similar sized boats is nothing unusual, there are certain advantages to a smaller boat especially sailing solo, but the difference is, it is done by people that know what they are doing.

I'd sail the world in nothing less than a 35' Cat or 40'+ single hull. Anything smaller is too cramped, not enough storage and too small for large seas. Can it be done?...Sure, but it's not wise.

Wait till they get the salvage bill. Might want to open a few more go fund me accounts.
Thinking they might have to deal with a nice fine from coast guard for pollution.

Size doesn’t matter as much as quality and boat design. Looking at the Hull shape and the way it is laying in the water I don’t think this was much of a quality boat. Probably a Day sailer.

All we can hope for is that they drown before they reproduce. These people are too stupid to live.

My Father in-law built a 39 foot sailboat in his back yard. He and his wife sailed up the East coast to Nova Scotia, and across the Gulf to South America. They spent 10 years sailing the Eastern and Western Caribbean, but most of the trips lasted 1.5 to 2 years. They sold all possessions too, but had a little more success than these two.

Well, to be fair, my toddler son's Lego rendition of the Titanic which he launched in our Jacuzzi had better success than these two idiots...

But that is cool about your FIL and his boat. If he built it himself it sounds like he knew what he was doing and had planned for years. Glad they had a success of it.

They probably got the idea from the owners of the Azura winery in Paonia, CO. Similar story except that couple was still rich as hell and sold the boat to open a winery.

ETA: And they were smart enough to not almost drown.

Sailed a 30' Hunter single handed from Galveston to Bay St. Louis back in the 80's. You don't try things like this on a whim boys and girls. Idiots are lucky to be alive.

Rough seas make good sailors.

When you think about it, they are off to a great start!

I don’t know who’s dumber—them or the people who donated to their GOFUNDME account.

I had a cat 30. Great well built boat for inland and coastal sailing. I sailed to Florida several times. I would never dream of sailing her in blue water. Huge difference in costal water boats and blue water boats.

I have a feeling this couple had a retractable keel boat and didn’t have the keel dropped.

I’m sure if this chic hung out at the yacht club she would meet some guy that would take her around the world.

There were no rough seas involved. They managed to hit a sandbar in the channel.

I'm hoping the people who donated did so in the hopes that these two shitheads get back on the water and drown theirselves before they reproduce. It's the only plausible explanation.
