Country music today is complete and utter crap as a lot. You may have one or two halfway decent ones, but they’re overshadowed by the raw sewage that is the bulk of the genre today. Most country artists from the 90’s back are utterly disgusted at what the industry has become, and they are right to be. The days of the Chris Ledoux, Alan Jackson, Clint Black, Garth, Alabama, Blackhawk, John Michael Montgomery, and especially Hank and Waylon are long gone. Nobody knows how to sing raw anymore, songwriting is meaningless and shallow and doesn’t fit. It’s a travesty...

Waylon would knock these new faux country douches on their asses 20 by 20 without getting a single cigarette ash in his beer.

The man thinks he’s too privileged and laments being who God made him. He, just like so many white kids today, have been brainwashed to feel guilty for who they are. That does not fit what country music is about... traditionally, it’s about independence, individualism, hard blue collar work, loving God and Country, justice, being proud of who you are and appreciating your roots, loving all people (black, white, brown, yellow, or red) for who they are, and not putting up with the BS the liberal jackals try to brainwash you with from the steady flow of communist shite that pours out of every Democrats office in govt.
Real country is based on NOT being oppressed or apologetic for who God made you, and appreciating others for who God made them. NOT this crap this guy’s spewing.

Well then you won't like much music....
I'm an Isbell fan. Took my 10yo son to see him earlier this year. Great show.
The problem I have with him and his politics is that he is REALLY spiteful to conservatives on his Twitter account. As in, he's posted some really rude things. A lot of these people are in his fan base, of course.
The fact that his base hasn't shrunk tells you more about his fans than him, which is something people like Isbell will never understand.

And you soft-handed metrosexuals who have never worked a full day outside in your life need to stick with your R&B and boy-band pop and quit screwing up real country music with your liberal whiny gay lamentations.

Instead of writing all this, you could have communicated the exact same thing by posting "I HAVE NEVER LISTENED TO ANY OF JASON ISBELL'S SONGS".
Everyone in this thread lumping him in with "bro country" and how he supposedly sounds like every other overproduced country artist is just showing their ignorance.

Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, and their ilk are bending the country genre to the folksy Americana just as much as any artist bending it to the pop side.
I don’t know why people have to get their panties in a wad about what’s “real Country” or what others listen to.
Listen to what you like and don’t listen to what you don’t. It’s that easy.
I listen to a lot of Aaron Watson, Cody Johnson, Cody Jinks, Jon Wolfe these days because I think they’re doing Country the way I enjoy it, but others may not see it that way, and that’s okay.

The concept of only focusing on someone’s race or gender when looking at the advantages they have in life is an idiots approach to life.
Everyone has an infinite number of ways society benefits them and an infinite number of ways society doesn’t and it is time we shift this paradigm back to focusing on the individual as the culmination of all of these factors, because when you do that and acknowledge an infinite amount of privileges exist, the concept of privilege loses all relevance.

Not so much. One of the shows I went to one of them, don't remember if it was Cooley or Hood, went on a rant about how the Republican party started the KKK, etc. Wasn't pretty, nobody in the audience liked it, and not to mention it was historically inaccurate.
Again, if you don't like prog politics, then don't listen to music. I've said it a zillion times in threads like this:
I love music, but am well aware that most of the musicians I like would hate me IRL since I am no longer a prog.

Look, you’re triggered and I understand. This crap is probably all you’ve ever really listened to. I don’t blame YOU. What I recommend is for you to actually listen to some of the great country artists from before 1997 and compare honestly with what is being expelled like vomit from the genre today. The people in this thread have heard what’s being played today (we can’t avoid it bc it’s everywhere). But I think kids have been exposed to the poppy and rap crap coming out of Nashville for so long now, that they’ve forgotten how truly liberating, raw, and fun true country music can be and was.
