Sounds like he’s exploiting bearded liberal cucks in skinny jeans that base their life on fabricated guilt and baseless emotion. Congratulations Gilbert.

If you think that then maybe your own insecurities are blinding your view. You can acknowledge the fact that as a white man there are certain things you are less likely to experience certain difficult situations than a minority or a women, without feeling guilty about it. That is quite literally the message of the song.

Hmmmm...

4 grammys

THIS album was up for CMA album of the year last year

Like a dozen Americana music award noms and multiple wins for artist/song/album of the year

Artist in residence for 2017 at the country music hall of fame

I’m surprised that someone that proclaims they love country music hasn’t heard of him.

Cool story, bro!

Now, do you think a black guy that is roughly as bad at driving as you are would be pulled over more, less or equally as often? And would his punishments be more, less or equally severe?

About the same unless they are a dick to the cop.

Black men are also 7-10x more likely to commit violent crime and many of them, even some middle class black people that I know, hate cops.

And yet you don't think the cop considers that when approaching a vehicle or stopping someone

Again, what does that have to do with me? I don’t care about the music, I’m pushing 40 and still like Eminem and we know how he feels.
I like Jason, especially compared to bro country but don’t try and throw some guilt on me or my grandparents to try to push your virtue signaling BS.

The post I was replying to said “me or my immediate family” so I referenced the easy and obvious immediate family example.

Also, where did I say any of you should feel guilty?

Not a bad driver at all bro, haven’t had any wrecks. Young kids that look like punks get pulled over white or black. Punishment is dictated by the crime. Don’t do it if you can’t afford to. You black? Ever had your arse whipped by the cops?

What he means is he loves listening to country music on the radio.

Mainstream country hates guys like Isbell and Sturgill.
Sturgill Simpson won the Grammy for Album of the Year last year (not country album of the year, but album of the year) but wasnt even invited to attend the CMA Awards so he stood outside busking and broadcast it on facebook live

Last fall, the week after the CMAs I happened to find myself talking to a minor DJ at one of Birmingham's two big country radio stations. She was talking about the CMA awards, so I asked her if she saw what Sturgill did outside. She immediately got a huge scowl over her face and began talking shite about what a huge a-hole he is. Which is completely contrary to how most be describe him, as being very humble and even reserved.

You would probably have that mistrust ingrained in you too if your community had the history of being abused by authority figures in this country that they do.

I agree that a lot of confrontations with the police could be avoided by simply going into the police encounter with a better more cooperative attitude. There have also been martyrs made out of people who brought their death on their selves (Michael Brown namely, Alton Sterling too).

But then you have situations like Philando Castille in Minnesota who was complying with the police and shot and killed over nothing. This can happen to white people too though, that kid in the hotel hallway who was crawling toward the cop as directed and literally begging not to be shot.... Law Enforcement in this country has a lot of problems they need to fix themselves. Many officers are way too aggressive and gung ho, or just not properly trained and prepared for their job.

I can agree with you occasionally on something Bowl. We make martyrs out of thugs which detracts from the focus on actual injustices. There are bad cops out there but if you treat them respectfully 199 times out of 200 you will be treated the same way.

It's not unheard of in inner city hoods for cops to stop and shake down a group of young black kids/men who are walking down the street otherwise minding their own business. Bad cops are definitely the minority, but you have to think that the majority of bad cops operate in the shady, poor inner city areas. So it makes more sense that the black community is more exposed to that underbelly of law enforcement than somebody in the suburbs.

Unfortunately I think a lot of the cops who harass and take advantage of black people on a regular basis are black officers who feel like they are somehow now above poor black people, or are overly aggressive and harsh because they feel like they have to prove themselves to white officers when handling other black people. I've had black friends tell me they hate black police officers the most because of this.

How do you figure that? Speaking put against Vietnam in Man In Black in 71 seems pretty socially progressive to me. But that was 20 years before I was born so maybe you have better insight than me

Advocating for prisoner rights and speaking openly about drug addiction seems progressive for the time too.

Merle Haggard.

I love a Fender Telecaster.

this is funny because Haggard and Isbell had two shows scheduled in Georgia where they were going to perform on stage together but Haggard died the month before. You think Merle would have played with a musician he didn't respect?

LINK

Haggard is Isbell's single biggest song writing influence. They are very similar lyrically. Isbell is one of the few people that can hold a candle to Haggard's songwriting and the closest thing you'll find left to Merle today.

Here's Isbell doing a great tribute cover of Haggard's "Sing Me Back Home" at the show they were supposed to do together. He really does it justice
