Didn’t Wicker piss off some black leaders by casting the deciding vote for the white deceased councilman’s wife to serve the remainder of his term?

She’s the most moderate of the Dems on the council. She votes with the Republicans on a lot of business issues. She’s probably pretty close to Kip policy-wise but she doesn’t have his personality.

She’s being propped up as symbolic opposition to prevent a Republican in the runoff. SWB will win re-election.

This seems like a poor strategy as Wicker would probably be the favorite in that run-off.

Wouldn't Wicker being on the ballot split much more of the democrat vote, leaving either Wicker or SWB to face the republican candidate.

Yeah she sided with the Republicans on that. She is pretty moderate, and that generally pisses them off. Gary Chambers ran a commically inept recall campaign against her.

Didn't Gravy call Wicker "black Judas" or something?

If the only major candidates are SWB, Wicker, and Watson, then Watson will absolutely be in the runoff and would probably receive more votes than either SWB or Wicker in the primary

The only votes Wicker may get that actually compete with Watson’s votes are the 35-65 year old, single white women with no kids that hate the idea of St George

Yes. And this candidacy is why she did it.

Tara Wicker is actually a decent candidate. Very smart lady, that has done good work on the council.

I’ve spoken to her several times at DDD meetings.

I’m sure there’ll be a dumb old racist white splitter candidate as well like Smokey or Condon.

Good luck! You forget, this is BR politics we are talking. I’d love to see Wicker beat SWB but, unfortunately, I believe SWB will remain mayor.

If she can primary Broome, she will be the next mayor.

ETA: Actually, that's not accurate. "If she can make the runoff", is what I should have said. Baton Rouge uses first past the post elections and I screwed it all up.
