The fact that TCA mixed her personal finances with the organization raises some serious red flags. I hope the audit captured her repayment details.

Wonder what kind of interest rate she was repaying herself at. Who would take out personal loans to ensure a taxpayer funded agency has enough money in their accounts to make payroll? That's got shady written all over it.

Big Biscuit (as mikelbr so eloquently put it) says whitey doesn't want black folk in charge of big budgets so they conspired to take out the head of the COA. To believe this, you'd have to ignore the fact that whitey only found out about this when a black woman decided to go to the press because she knew that the black judges in BR wouldn't do shite about it because many of them are connected to the head of the COA.

This. Sexist Gravy thinks there is some big conspiracy that white people don't want blacks to manage governmental agencies with large(ish) budgets. Nobody gives a shite about a black person running the COA. What people care about is that the person in charge of taking care of elderly people took advantage of an elderly person. That's it. Why is that so hard for sexist Gravy and his merry band of dummies to understand? Oh, because ultimately him and his dummies just don't like any white involvement in the "community affairs." Sad.

Where does whitey fit in and get the blame for this?

Whitey demands public agencies be ethical and their tax funds be spent in accordance with the law.

In other words, whitey is racist.

But Jesus died on the cross, ya'll.

Nobody gave a shite about a black woman running COA with their newly increased budget until story came out about her swindling an elderly COA client. Still don't care if they put another black person in charge...as long as its one who will operate ethically and manage the COA and its budget properly.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the audit only pertains to the COA's campaign tactics last fall. I'm pretty sure there will be a slew of findings related to ethics laws being shite all over. Hopefully this can lead to a re-vote.

The co-mingling of funds is a separate issue that would have to be reviewed in another audit. Keep in mind, the last time COA was audited, they had all sorts of findings that would make any reasonable person believe it was at best a poorly run operation that existed mainly to act as a pseudo employment agency.

Yeah, just looked into it. You are correct.

From the BR Biz Report
quote:

Meanwhile, Purpera says his office has just completed a separate investigation of the COA and questionable tactics it engaged in during last fall’s campaign for a dedicated 2.25-mil property tax that is expected to generate about $8 million a year for the agency over the next decade. Purpera says the audit, which it launched last December, will contain few surprises but will support facts already brought to light in recent media reports, namely that the COA was involved in the tax campaign in violation of its tax-exempt status as a nonprofit organization.

Purpera says his office will deliver the audit to the COA this week. Once agency management has had an opportunity to respond to the findings, his office will release the audit to the public.

“We will do what we always do—suggests ways to fix the problem and make recommendations on policies, procedures to help them avoid making the same mistakes again.”

Sounds like, worse case scenario, they'll get a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again. Do you go changing, you crooked fricking state.

Legislative auditor can only present the findings and make recommendations. It is on those who oversee the COA (metro council, AG, Governor's office) to come down with any penalties.

That was the main reason for racist whitey delaying the vote yesterday. They wanted to see the audit report that directly deals with the vote that is allowing this tax money infusion. My hope is that based on the report, the metro council can kill the increase or the voting results are thrown out due to the shenanigans. This thing doesn't stand a chance if it goes for a re-vote.

So I assume the vote to approve the tax must be unanimous?

I don't think so. Currently the metro council has enough people on it to prevent BR from turning into a banana republic. The walk out prevented them from having a quorum to be able to have the vote. The council would have voted to delay the decision another 30 days so they could review the audit report. Unbeknownst to the dems on the council, their walkout delayed the vote 60 days.

No chance to revoke their tax-exempt status or toss out the original vote and have a re-vote based on COA improperly campaigning in violation of their tax-exempt status?

I sure hope the auditor was African american because if not I'm sure his findings are based on race as well!
