It depends on the water level. Right now no chance. At low water? A fit guy would have a shot.

If you are a strong swimmer it shouldn't make a difference except it will take a little longer and you will end up further down stream

Why are yall saying no? Would the current pull you under? I mean, if not I think I could swim it. I may be 10 miles downstream when I get across, but I'd get across

Not today you couldn't.

Bro the flow rate is so much more right now than at low water. The river is dangerous AF right now. It makes a huge difference.

You serious? So you've never heard of currents? If the water level is higher it is going to drag your arse down.

I could swim that distance easily. But the currents are incredibly strong in the Mississippi and the water is muddy. Once you get pulled under in a strong current it is pretty likely you wont come back up.

Whats so hard about swimming across a river? Maybe I'll have to try that out when I get back from my jog up to the top of Mt Everest. Its so nice out!

Tyrone Power's granddaughter apparently got her wish and became "one with the river" after hooking up with a musician of questionable repute.

It was international news when she disappeared. Swimming. At the moon walk.

In a brief attempt to swim it (freestyle), I became aware of how much the current pushes your legs faster downriver than your upper body and arms. A lot of effort went toward not getting turned straight with the current like a log.

At the time I was taking a swim class at LSU that required 10 laps in the Old Huey Long pool just to warm up. (About 1000 yards on a daily basis). 50 yards in the Mississippi was harder than that by a factor so impressive that even as stupid college kid I knew to quit and live.

I just posted in the other thread that I swam the river in the 70's in June but it wasn't as high as it is today. It took us forever and it was a very stupid thing to do. What that woman supposedly done is completely bad-arse, for real. It's hard to believe she crossed it according to that diagram.

You’re surprised the descendant of a “Tyrone Powers” drowned in the raging river?

It's flowing at around 7m gallons per second right now. Hard pass on my part.
