I remember a couple years ago where a little boy named Legend had his organs donated when he had no chance of recovery.

Could you do this? I’ve asked myself this numerous times. Obviously, it’s a good cause.

But the possibility of corruption in the organ harvesting field would drive me to not doing it.

The thought of my daughter’s organs being harvested horrified the hell out of me.

Are you suggesting the hospital will purposefully allow your child to die if they are an organ donor?

Yes. A friend of ours lost their 17 year old in a car wreck last year and the one bit of comfort they got was knowing his organs saved lives.

Anyone in this family will be cremated, don’t care about any physical parts.

Yes I would.

Would hope to help others

Mike leach did it (obviously not a kid). If you have to go it’s a good thing to do on the way out.

Yes, why wouldn't you want to save another child's life?

Let something positive come out of a tragedy.

Considering the usual crowd on this board. I would imagine they believe Pfizer is harvesting the organs and doing something nefarious with them.

My father was friends with a father whose daughter was run over on Burbank, back in the late 90's. She was old enough to choose to be a donor, and I can't forget us at the hospital and the Dr's asking her parents, in front of everyone, if they wanted to donate her organs. I was only 16 or so at the time, but I found it incredibly callous. Maybe she was a donor and they were just checking, but the timing was awful, since they were about to pull her off of life support. I don't know if they check with the family, regardless of what your license says. I thought "If they can save 10 people, rather than her, are her best interests at heart?"

Everyone knows Pfizer has the COVIDs and Merck has the organs.

If it helped another child, then of course.

The license thing is simply a registry. You make your wishes known.
It does not constitute consent. The next of kin must consent.
If I had a will that said, “donate my organs,” and my family says no, then the answer is no. There are some very unusual/rare circumstances where the deceased can consent to their own donation ahead of time, but it is extremely rare.
The registry is just a tool for LOPA coordinators and doctors to have an idea of what the deceased would have wanted.

Not an uncommon thought or feeling.
Doctors who harvest organs generally aren’t transplanting them (they do transplants, but they are usually taking out or putting in. Not taking out AND putting in). They don’t know the patient who is receiving it and have no control over that. And two independent doctors have to determine that the patient is brain dead before it can happen, and they cannot have anything to do with the transplant team.

Having worked in/around donation for a number of years, I’ve never seen a single instance of anything resembling, “well we can save x lives if we let this one die,” because the system very much doesn’t allow that process to happen. What I do see happen a lot more often than I wish I did is doctors watching brain dead patients and not notifying the organ procurement agency because they’re generally timid about the subject, and good donation candidates never get the chance to be approached.
