Could the State of Louisiana set up LSU like the State of Texas has UT?

UT has oil wells or whatnot in west Texas. Obviously not to the same extent, but does the State have any revenue producing assets that could be transferred to LSU and create a funding mechanism?

Hmm. All pot revenues into the LSU endowment? Now, we're thinking outside the box.

LSU is already horribly mismanaged, you want to put them in charge of Louisiana’s natural resources?

Lol

Texas doesn’t have gambling and we do. You would think we could find some way to divert some of those millions and millions of dollars to higher education. But that would require a competent legislature.

Yeah, raise the price of football tickets and parking. That should cover it easy.

They would probably view that as defunding one of the untouchable pet projects that line the politicians pockets and won’t allow it

Nope. We already gave all our natural resources away to private corporations. We only had to give them tax breaks to take em too

Those funds would run out after the first fiscal year and they'd be proposing more taxes or trying to figure out how to transfer funds from the DOTD budget

They bought land 200 years ago for expansion purposes and there happened to be oil underneath.

Not sure LSU can luck out like that.

University Lands (UL) manages the surface and mineral interests of 2.1 million acres of land across nineteen counties in West Texas for the benefit of the Permanent University Fund (PUF).

The PUF is one of the largest university endowments in the United States and benefits more than twenty educational and health institutions across both The University of Texas System and Texas A&M University System.

sad to say... but kinda true. State of Texas set the land aside something like 150 years ago.

LSU need to cut out all state universities except

University of Louisiana - Lafayette
University of New Orleans
Louisiana Tech University

Divert funds from the closed schools to LSU.

It is the only real chance LSU has to be a top tier national university.

And hire leaders from University of Texas and aTm to run LSU.

Then set up true funding for LSU from casinos, oil, gas and pot.

Yeah our politicians won’t completely frick this up with dipping their hand in the pot.
