Pretty much. I've probably been to 50 zephyrs/baby cakes games and I think an Lsu midweek game against Mcneese draws a larger crowd.

No, but I'd like to see a hockey team again.

New Orleans never should have built a minor league park on freaking Airline Highway. Should have been built on that big lot at the edge of the convention center on the river by the bridge.

Absolutely, Baton Rouge could support a minor league team.

Yes, they would lose any head to head battle for attendance with LSU. That's fine.

First of all, there wouldn't be as many head to head battles as you might think. The pro team would probably only have 25 home games in April and May, with half of those on competing nights. The remaining 40-50 home games would be after LSU's season is over.

Second, if they got half the attendance that LSU gets, it would be considered a success.

Nope. It's been tried and failed miserably. I went to a couple of the "Baton Rouge Marlins" games and they literally passed a bucket for fans to contribute a dollar to any Baton Rouge player who hit a homerun. It was embarrassing.

After doing a little research, LSU averaged over 10,000 fans in 2017.

Not a single domestic minor league team is currently averaging over 10,000. None in the states. There are two Mexican League teams over 10K (Tijuana and Monterrey), but that's it. Very few teams are even averaging over 5K fans, there are plenty of affiliated A-ball teams that don't even average 1,000... but they are still in existence.

I agree. If the saints ever get a new stadium I can see it going in that area on at the end of the convention center.

It's be a traffic nightmare for a football sized crowd. It's perfect for a minor league baseball crowd, though.

BR is in a steep decline. And in the past, I was it's biggest unabashed cheerleader. It's now in a state of flux that I don't see myself raising my children in.

So no. It could not support a minor league team. It's having a hard enough time supporting the seeping and dying infrastructure it has now.

They would def have to build some new roads and bridges if a stadium ever went up. I don't know where else they would to besides the East

It can't support a proper infrastructure much less a minor league baseball team.

This is the epitome of hyperbole. The mayor's office and council is a clownshow and the flood wrecked the suburbs, but Baton Rouge's economy is incredibly stable thanks to Exxon, the stage government, LSU, and the plants. Baton Rouge may not be on the same upward track it was 3 years ago, but it is certainly not in some Detroit-esque tail-spin like it was back in the late 80's when we went from boomtown to scooby doo ghost town over night.

if it was named LSU.....

if it was named something else and placed in a part of town with little baseball interest it would still get same media air time as LSU

Didn't we have some arena-style football team around here (not the voodoo in NO) for a while? Seems like the players had to hawk tickets outside the Albertsons before the season.

It's been tried a few times. Never succeeds.

Condon hit the nail on the head years ago when he said that BR would never support a sports team that doesn't wear purple & gold.

There is no way BR would support another baseball team of any level. A hockey team would be great. Almost all of the old ECHL teams are making a comeback through the Southern league. The river center has to get renovated but I think that is planned.
