I dont think anyone could take over America old school style. Between our military, the national guard, and the absurd amount of civilians with guns, that would be a very tough task. The best options would be to knock out the financial grid and utilities, and let America tear itself apart from the inside out. My father always said the greatest danger of a natural disaster isn't the disaster itself, but the craziness of people after the disaster. Think New Orleans after Katrina, but on a national scale.

No. Modern media would absolutely ensure that any anti-war politician could show the true horrors of war.
The modern media would say what the government told them to. Hell, they were all about Iraq for the first few years before even they couldn’t hide its pointlessness for the government anymore.

And today’s generation would fight. They’ve proven that for the past 20 years. And they didn’t have to be drafted like those pussies from the boomer generation.

Dude would be against ANY war, no doubt.

Korea tried to nuke us? Give up our guns and go talk to them!!

Germany tried to round up whatever group? Don't fight back!! It's not necessary!!

China positions ships to attack us? They have a right to navigate open waters!!

Yeah pretty much. Every major city would be up in flames a day (looting and riots) after the power goes down.

Of course there were protesters...war is serious business and there are always going to be strong feelings on both sides.

however, our population as a whole was pretty much ok with us walking down afganistan's arse once we found out that they were behind the 911 shite.

Given the right cause, this country would be more than ready for the blood and guts. Americans love to fight, especially for a righteous cause. Despite what we see on social media and CNN, there are still plenty of tough, hard nosed Americans out there.

Hypotheticals like this are irrelevant. All future wars will be bullshite political wars. The first one to become an all out total war will be our last.

I cut and pasted from a thread on the Poli Board, but a good example is the first few months after 9/11. The nation was unified, we mobilized quickly, and wore the Taliban out in about 2-1/2 months. The follow up to the initial drive was lacking, but the public wasn't bitching in the beginning. Details below:

The first CIA "Jawbreaker" team arrived in the Panjshir Valley on 9/26/2001 via a Soviet MI-17 helicopter flown by CIA Air Branch pilots. They brought several million dollars with them that they immediately started using to ensure the cooperation and allegiance of Northern Alliance warlords for the upcoming military campaign. They started mapping NA and Taliban front lines and gathering target information for when the bombing began, as well as collecting intelligence on the whereabouts of Al-Quada. The USAF started its bombing campaign on 10/10/2017.

The first Army SF A-Team, ODA 555 (Triple Nickel), arrived the night of 10/19/2001. Among their gear were SOFLAM laser target designators, to be used in conjunction with laser guided bombs. They soon moved onto the Shomali Plain to direct air strikes along the front lines.

Kabul was taken by Thanksgiving and the Taliban collapsed in the first week of Dec.

Don't fool yourself. There will be TONS of SJW types that will oppose any conflict.

If you asked someone 10 years ago if anyone would ever oppose the 2nd amendment, people would probably say no. But here we are with several groups trying to do it.

Yep. If you want to destroy Americas will, hit the grids. The people would be begging for peace within hours.

If you weren't getting your brains scrambled by an hours long artillary barrage, or getting a dose of mustard gas or phosgene, or getting mowed down by machine guns when "going over the top"; you were dying of typhus, dysentery, pneumonia or the Spanish flu.

frick trench warfare.

Who do you think has been doing the fighting and dying since 2001? It's not all Delta, DEVGRU, and SF. There are young guys who are smack dab in the middle of it.

I could probably handle the fighting. It would be the long, muddy days of nothingness stuck in the trench punctuated by the sheer terror of artillary that would get to me.

It's a misconception that the majority of troops that fought in Vietnam were draftees. I want to say it was less than 30% (if I'm remembering Ken Burns' Vietnam correctly). Plenty of Americans were volunteering to serve before the Vietnam War and during the war. You also had career soldiers who served multiple tours.

You saw it in some degree after 9/11. A real existential threat to this nation would snuff out bullshite politics and spark the fire of the American war machine. Americans are a fighting people and nothing will change that.

BS. If Obama actually meant what he said about his "red line", I would have supported him as a wartime President. Even a Democrat President deserves our support during wartime, unless that war is waged on American citizens.

WWII was not nearly as united as the popular history books lead us to believe. A coal strike was narrowly averted in 1944. I had a teacher whose father had been a black marketeer. They had a barn full of automobile tires. By VE day, people were sick of war and wanted the troops home. If we had had to invade Japan, you would have seen some real divisions, especially if it went badly.

To say nothing of WWI, which many in the US were wary of. It took a massive propaganda campaign to get the public on board. And and again, if it hadn't been a relatively quick affair, buyer's remorse would have set in with a vengeance.
