There’s no telling. You’d have to find out who’s oil they’re white labeling.

ETA. In all honesty people overthink oil and some brands have a weird cult following. I’ve done analysis of all types of oil in all types of equipment. Any modern oil is perfectly fine if you change at regular intervals. If you have an extreme use case, no your off-roading TRD is not extreme use lol, I’m talking about frac pumps and hydraulic power packs that run for weeks on end at 90% load, etc. then you should pay attention, get into oil analysis and drain off that. Or if you really want to stretch out your intervals there are some elite products out there, Total being one of the best I’ve used.

I think about 90% of it is the same crap. A lawsuit a few years ago diluted the meaning of "synthetic oil" considerably.

Last time I checked, there was exactly one type of Mobil 1 sold in the USA that was really synthetic according to the strict definition. It was labeled "European Formula" or something and came in 0w30 and maybe 0w40.

I can tell you I do 10k oil changes in my nissan. Around 9k mobil1 gets a little rattley at start up, the TBN is still good... But I can hear it.

I'm at 4200ish miles right now on the kirkland. I'll be changing it at 5k.

Check out bobistheoilguy.com

It is highly rated and is packaged by Warren Distribution. They also package Walmart Supertech synthetic and many other synthetic brands.

The guys on that forum say it is good stuff and it is damn near 1/2 price versus Mobil 1.

I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

That is correct and meets all the current standards including ILSAC GF-6.

That being said for a general use oil the savings over Mobil One is not enough for me to choose Kirkland over it. I am not saying Mobil One is the "best" oil but it is a tried and true oil for most applications.

Yeah I've never been a believer in the 10k intervals. I also change at 5k even on synthetic 0w20. I do change the filter every other change on my newer vehicles, saves a quart or so and some time.

Funny how so many lubrication related problems seem to pop up now that manufacturers recommend extended intervals. Fords cam phasers and timing chains are a great example.

That gets into the whole Group III, Group IV base stock issue. Honestly it really is a non-ssiue. There is no crankcase oil sold that is 100% Group IV PAO. Even people that worry about Group IV base stock are just looking for a high percentage. There really is no definition of synthetic oil in this sector, it is all marketing. API doesn't even use the term now.

Just got back from tractor supply. They were discontinuing Rotella full synthetic heavy duty gas engine 0w-20 and 5w-20. They had it at 12.99 for 5 quart jugs. I bought all they had.

Yeah. I mostly just use the manufacturer's "synthetic" 5W30 in my car, and I'm sure it's mostly Group III-derived. The Costco stuff is probably pretty "simular."

That synth 5w-20 made a huge difference in how my old 6.0 f-bawfitty idled. I don’t typically buy into that helping, but in that old HPOP diesel it helped a lot.

The store discontinued it or they are no longer making it?

I might have to go by the one here.

I thought so. I bought 11 jugs. Lol. They had 5 or 6 0w-30, but I plenty of the recommended grade for my wife’s and sons vehicle.

I mention it so others can check their store.

Dad used to say the same thing as far back as the mid 1970’s. Keep in mind he retired from Citgo as the Purchasing Manager for the entire corporation.

As long as what’s in the container is labeled correctly, as in meets the standard, it’s basically the same stuff, give or take an additional additive. Not gonna find false labeling at chain stores, even smaller regional, as a single lawsuit would wipe them out completely. Just not worth it.
