With coupon our co-pay was $100 this year. Switched jobs & have better insurance because last year it was close to $250.

The government stepping in is precisely why they can charge $700 for an Epipen.

A generic version of the EpiPen did not get approval from the Food and Drug Administration; the agency cited "certain major deficiencies."

I'd like to know how this congressional inquiry goes. Mylan stock is down roughly 3% since Friday when the pricing was questioned.

Ah yes, please help fix this problem you helped create.

But that is just a boner pill.

Actually, it's a treatment for arterial hypertension. It was repackaged and marketed for a beneficial side effect.

That's what they were looking into when they found the ED benefit. Then realized they had a gold mine. And away it went. Now viagra is "re-repackaged" as its original intended purpose. And named and marketed as such.

There are ways to handle it, more competition won't work in the pharmacy industry.

Let them charge $800 a dose but make the company put the extra money into high paying blue collar jobs rather than in the pockets of their wealthy stockholders.

Wtf?

So, the parents of children with allergies should be required to support Mylan's portfolio?

No, Mylan should simply provide these services free of charge.

One situation like this occurs and all of a sudden government is needed in EVERY aspect of business?

It's not really just one situation. Several Big Pharma have done lots of shady shite over the years. Some make so much money though that even a huge class action law suit doesn't mean shite to them.

For example, Purdue Pharma basically created an opiate epidemic in this country, where they falsified data and lied to patients, doctors, and the FDA about the risk of addiction. But a billion dollar law suit is about 1/3 of their annual sales and they've been selling the drug for 2 decades. So even huge lawsuits are worth the risk when they can sell billions every year on one drug alone.

That's only one part of the problem and they're not the only company misleading consumers and being more consumed about profits over safety. Don't get me wrong, every company is in business for a reason and I don't have a problem with making healthy profits, but lots of companies take it way too far and have more control over our lives than they should. These days it seems like lobbyists have more influence with decision makers than the American people.

And they pay minimum wage as well. You should hate all businesses.

Why is Viagra not generic? Pfizer literally paid people to not apply for permission to produce.

Theres no generic available yet because the patent does not expire until 2020. And actually, Teva has paid Pfizer for the right to start producing sildenail 2 years ahead of patent expiry, in Dec 2017.

I'd they're poor they're not paying $700 for this stuff anyway.

Well no, of course not. But a lot of working people in middle class jobs will be footing the larger bill for the med because they have "just enough" insurance to get by with what they make but aren't "poor enough" to draw welfare benefits. It's that shitty gray area that a lot of people are caught in at the moment.

I am convinced BigPharm is crashing this site. I've tried to reply twice and the site goes down.

Last night I wrote a TLDR post and it was wasted on the site going down.

Therein lies the rub. The agency tasked with ensuring the safety of the public is the same entity that gives pharmaceutical companies such a massive barrier to entry. They're a government agency so they're anything but impartial and highly susceptible to lobbyists. The FDA is the epitome of unintended consequences from federal regulations that simply help the rich get richer by stifling competition under the guise of protecting the public.

My main reply was to a guy who said "government was exactly what was needed for a problemI created"?

I was wondering how I created it?

Government oversight is needed in cases like this. That is what government is for. Police, military, roads and infrastructure..... And when something this egregious is done.

This is like $500 a night hotel rooms during 9/11.

Or for all the flood affected LA folk right now. Imagine the floor you had put in 2 years ago for 3000-4000 dollars? Now imagine some fricking vulture telling you it costs $21,000-28,000 for the same job? Or roll into Lowe's and find sheetrock now costs $50 a sheet?
