I for one am shocked they couldn’t keep it afloat on just the change my mom let me throw in the fountains.

RIP pizza @ Mama Brava’s… you were the OG reward for safety patrol in elementary school. You weren’t shite unless you got to ride there with the guidance counselor.

I use to work at Merry Go Round and DJ’s across the hall (owned by the same company). This was in 1985.

You could have a beer, a slice, then a smoke at Mama Bravas. Starport was the best arcade in BR for a long time. Christmas shopping and clothes shopping before school started with my mom in that place are some of my most prominent memories.

No, Spaceport (was the name of it) was too small. Even during Cortana’s hayday, the arcade at Bon Marche was better, much bigger.

Bon Marche was a bit before my time. No one went there when I was a kid.

They should have charged an entry fee to mall walkers. That could have kept them afloat a few years.

I remember going all the time growing up in the 90s for school shoes, Gamestop, and the Disney store by the fountain.

They kept the entrance to the actual mall open when the Dillard's Clearance store even tho there weren't any stores left but like an asian jewelery store or two. I remember having such a haunted feeling walking that bare mall. I Felt like I was gonna get shanked/grabbed and never found in that million square ft abandoned place.

I think back on how much my mom enjoyed shopping at malls, and how almost everyone else seemed to as well. Then I think about how I hate going to malls today, and I wonder what changed; the people or the malls?

I remember going with my mom on weekends before mall of Louisiana opened. Lunch was always at that Taco Bell right in the middle. There was always people and full of life. Good times.

My parents put a Commodore-64 computer on lay-a-way for me at the computer store just down from the movie theater. Anyone remember its name?

Merry Go Round and Chess King were same company. What was DJ? There is a great story of the rise and fall of those cool retailers. I believe it was ultimately due to missing the boat on the parachute pants. What a time?!

Mall Expert here.
Cortana wasn’t technically a great mall but it was a good mall all around and deserved a far better fate. Many good memories there.

Worst: Got T-boned in the parking lot as a teen. Last time I have ever gone shopping on Black Friday.

Best: pre-drivers license bike rides from south BR to meet friends there. If we ran out of quarters for Space Port then free video games in the department stores. Feeling sneaky in Spencers and being sneaky Waldenbooks. Wasn’t there another bookstore? Corn dogs (I guess the slur is true) and lemonade. Orange Juliuses. Meat samples at that smoky delicious gift meat and cheese shop. DQ was a later addition but Oreo blizzards. First chick fil a in BR by a long shot. I fancied myself a skater who was better than the mulleted z cav and parachute pants wearers so it was fun judging.
