Any shootings at Cortana?
Not that I remember. Believe it or not that was a very nice part of town back in the day. I remember my parents dropping me and my friends off there for hours when I was in maybe the 6th grade

I believe in the early 80’s there was a robbery or domestic dispute at the restaurant across from Piccadilly. My father sent me a newspaper article about it.

Chelsea's? The round of death.

My friend and I got popped for shoplifting Ralph Lauren polos from Gaudchaux(sp?) department store, That was a shitty experience.
Bon Marche Mall ftw! They had a better arcade anyway.

BM did have a Woolworths, a McDonald's and the baseball card store across from it.

Yes indeed, that baseball card store was badass!

Haven’t seen anybody mention Record Bar on here unless I overlooked it. It was the smaller, less “national chain” type record store. Way more trendy and hip and geared more towards Top 40 and current Metal than Musicland which appealed more to all audiences. Used to love Piccadilly, Mandarin Express, Mama Brava (never carded for ordering pitchers @14 and 15), Structure and Space Port. I remember seeing Grease in the summer of ‘78 with my mom at the Cortana Cinema. Cortana was the Mother Ship for the social scene as an adolescent in the 80’s. Great memories!

They had that rotating case right when you walked in to the right. I remember getting a Ken Griffey Jr rookie card out of pack there in the late 80s. Loved that place.

Two. I posted one in this thread. The other one was when the mall opened, the mall security used to carry guns. One of the mall cops shot another mall cop in the foot showing off his gun.

Maybe so but that definitely wasn't a bad area back then. Florida and Airline was basically the epicenter of BR in the 80s.

No, it was a great area back then. Cortana mall/fun fair park/Broadmoor McDonald's/2010

It's not what it once was but honestly that area still isn't the hood. I hope they find something to do with the property. That area could be gentrified. Close to Tara, Goodwood, Broadmoor etc.

In 1971-1972 my brothers and I shot our Estes rockets in the field that became Cortana. It was perfect since it was so large there was no way to lose them.
We moved away for a decade but later I found myself buying my wedding ring at Service Merchandise. Some friends and I saw ET at the theater at Cortana, a good friend broke down in tears at the end of ET and was embarrassed as hell.

Comics, Cards and Coins.
I spent so much time in that place in the 80s. It was amazing.
The owner was pretty unfriendly, for the most part — but to his defense, he has to deal with annoying kids like me.
They moved from the mall and opened up, I think, off College in the shopping center by Office Depot but it was a big, well-lit store and didn’t have nearly the same dank, dungeon appeal.
Now that I think about it, maybe it was off Bluebonnet and then that place became Jokurs Palace. Though I could be wrong about that too.

It was called The Orange Bowl. It served burgers and such and also served a frozen orange juice sherbet called OJoy. I got many of those on my way to Space Port.
Orange Bowl! That's it! They had pretty good burgers as well.

When I was a young kid I pressed the red emergency button on the escalators a couple times and embarrassed the hell outta mom. It was just so tempting as a kid.
You and me were the same kid. I did it too. It had a little clear safety flap and you lifted the flap and pressed the button and a bell like an old style phone went off as long as you held the button.
I also used to try my damnest to run the wrong way up the escalator. It was freaking impossible with all the old people in the way that were using it properly.

I remember watching movies at Bon Marche in high school.
I got caught shoplifting from Bon Marche twice. Got let go both times. Once from the Cards, Comics, Coins place and another time from Woolworth.
Both over really stupid and meaningless crap, like less than $3 stuff.

I saw Coal Miner’s Daughter there and possibly Tootsie.
