Coronavirus impact is now getting personal

Daycare ... 2 weeks ago stopped letting parents go back to classroom. Since then we have to use hand sanitizer outside before keying in. Once inside they take parent and child temps and record them. If either has a temp over 99.2 that's it... both go home. If both are okay one of the employees comes up and takes child back. Temp of parent is checked at pickup. An employee brings child up. Any temp and child cannot come back the next day. Last night we received an email from owner that due to so many parents holding kids back they are struggling to keep doors open because people aren't paying their biweekly tuition since their kids are not there. Now asking parents to make it official and let them know if they are keeping the kids from Daycare due to fears or if someone has been laid off and kids are staying home because of costs. They need to document in case of government assistance. Daycare owner said they are trying to get to April 13th because that is when government assistance might be available. No guarantees so they may have to shut the doors before then. Any parents that still need day care will be in big time jamb. Our 3 year old is in a class with 21 kids with 3 teachers so I know the personnel costs are probably pretty high.
Wife's monthly bunko group (16 women) canceled their get together 2 weekends ago. She just found out that 2 of the women have tested positive for Covid-19. One is 23 and the other is 51. Not saying we dodged a bullet but pretty damn close.
Yes... dear diary and all. Just pointing out that this is no longer something we are just reading about.

Our daycare is still open... but at least half the kids in our son's room have been out.
That said, since they are open everyone is still paying, and every daycare around here has a waitlist, so I expect them to stay open as long as they can.

So you might have to watch your own kid and your wife can’t play bunko?
Damn man sounds like you’re really starting to feel the pain, as opposed to people who have lost their frickING JOB.

I was allowed to donate blood with a temp of 99.5
99.2 seems low, I’m curious to know how many kids they turned away

We’re keeping our kids home and the daycare is charging us 50% of the rate.
I mean it would make sense to pay zero but the daycare is hard to get into so we don’t mind at the moment
May is my middle sons last month since he’s off to kinder in August

2 guys that work for me had their daycares close about a week ago. Been a struggle for them since. Honestly I sent the director of our daycare an email and told him we would pick up the tuition of a 2nd child on Monday and again in 2 weeks to help them get to the mid-April.

Bi-weekly tuition? Well that's not smart on their part. Should be monthly up front.

All those new procedures at the daycare were put in place in Louisiana also (or should've been) at the direction of the LA Dept of Ed, so it's probably not up to the daycare itself to make those rules. Some of the daycares around here have already closed.

Why not just leave them at Chuck E. Cheese's like everyone else?

Your daycare shouldn’t be open

That is our situation. Any daycare you want to go to has a waitlist so if you want your spot you better pay.

How? There are out of work waitresses everywhere begging to babysit for some kind of income. High schools are closed, colleges closed
