I have to call you out on this one. It’s not a very fair comparison since our cases are spread over a much larger area with more resources.
The US v Italy comparison might be the dumbest thing going around right now.

Good find. You can sort of see when the thread started to go downhill. There was a shift from charts and spreadsheets toward gifs and memes.

“Flattening the curve” doesn’t mean we stop everyone from getting the virus. It’s that we stop everyone from getting it early and often. We spread it out. The idea being that it saves OTHER lives besides the elderly and immune compromised. You act like you are being so fricking compassionate compared to my idea which actually spares the elderly while the rest of us continue on and we don’t send who knows how many people into poverty.

I’m now back to “do this for a month or so to try and flatten the curve, but much longer and we need to start getting ok with people dying.”
Sadly, I think me too. I work in a nursing home and my parents are 75/71 with heart issues; one with DM & likely mild obesity by definition. I worry about ALL of them as well as those that I don't know BUT I can guarantee you my daddy would say "live your life". Went home to visit over the weekend and didn't want to give him a hug. He said basically somethings going to kill him some day and to just hug him.
Really broke my heart just in general.

HOW is SK doing better at this than we are? Was it early testing??

The leading experts looked at your idea and scrapped it. Move on.

Early testing and they had an app to track all contact traces. And their culture is much more obedient than America's.

Because it doesn’t look as good to the “mob.” The experts are going to give politicians the most conservative approach possible to stop the virus. These people aren’t economic majors. So for the leaders, It’s about appearances and making sure they look as they they’re doing the most possible. It’s why there’s a competition going on around the nation between governors and mayors to see who can impose the most drastic measures.

Where is this? Sorry -- I can't find it.

That's not the main problem with the comparison IMO. If the disease really does act that way in both countries, it might have some predictive value. The bigger problem IMO is that these early curves are very dependent on the testing; how far along was community spread when it started, how fast it's ramping up, and how deeply it's sampling the entire population. Those things may affect the shape of the curves more than disease spread.

I’m immune compromised you selfish a-hole. If these measures means my life is saved and others like me, then it’s worth it. I don’t sit around on a computer either and neither does my wife. We both have jobs too. I just had to quit mine. Stop acting like you’re the only one in here with something to lose
Again, you’re a selfish fricking prick but even I wouldn’t sacrifice your life. If our roles were reversed I’d have more fricking empathy and compassion than you’re showing right now. Flattening the curve means helping hospitals by spreading the infected out AND trying to save as many as elderly and others with health issues as possible. It doesn’t mean just one thing.

The UK death rate is rising rapidly and they're doing it the way that you've been advocating.
