People who fully recover from the coronavirus can be left with '20 to 30%' less lung function, and gasping for breath when they walk quickly, Hong Kong doctors find.

Not good.

That's straight up bullshite fearmongering. It was a sample size of 12, and "2 or 3" had reduced lung function in the short term.

ETA: not criticizing you, but the outlets who are taking that and running with it as clickbait

That's from a very limited and questionable study, fishtiger. There isn't enough data and research to support that yet.

Sure but why would a truly asymptomatic person who didn’t have knowingly have contact with a victim go get drive through tested? For shits and giggles?

They test close contacts of known infections. It’s part of the contact tracing. That would definitely pick up asymptomatic cases. Not all of them, but some.

Completely ignore that nonsense. Simply fear mongering.

How can the media report a medical condition based on 2-3 people? That is ridiculous.

It’s hilarious you continue to try to “battle” in this thread when you’ve already lost.

Only 60,000,000 cases to go until we pass h1n1

I’m with you Boat. So far the vast majority of people that get this can recover at home with chicken soup like most other seasonal viruses. If you’re sick stay away from old people and out of the public. I’m just not seeing the dead in the street numbers here or worldwide that would warrant a panic larger than H1N1. Expanded testing will increase the infected numbers it will also drop the mortality rate a lot. Dead from it is still vastly old and sickly people like any other illness.

It’s almost as if people (even some here) are actually rooting for this virus like there’s some sick fetish of a chaotic post-apocalyptic environment.

The South Park Indian Casino SARS episode from 2003 fits this perfectly. That one came on last night and had me laughing hard.

This thread is no different than a hurricane thread.

Update from Italy in, pretty significant drop in deaths from 250 reported yesterday to 175 today.

That is so far today. The tally is not over. And Italy has 3,497 new cases so far today. Worse than any previous day (2,651 two days ago) and there are hours to go.

Not good for a country under lockdown.

I said it earlier and it holds true. It’s wishcasters, just like when it “might” snow in south LA. I don’t get it. Hurricane party syndrome.

To be fair it hasn’t been enough time for the lockdown to do anything. We won’t know for another week

Not surprising cases would keep rising when you can have it for two weeks before really being hit by it. The impact of the lockdown measures will lag behind the issuance of them.

I'd have to imagine they release the new cases/deaths at at a consistent time every day.

Apparently the smaller cities that went “red zone” at the beginning, about ten days ago, are already evening out.

But you’ve gotta remember cities in the middle and south of the country, like Rome and Naples, didn’t lockdown until this past weekend. Even Milan wasn’t completely locked down until last Friday.

This is about a three week illness in terms of being contagious. If you deep dive into some stuff from actual Italians and Italian doctors at ground zero they’re seeing a marked improvement in the first areas to quarantine.

This is way worse than a hurricane thread.

This is like showing the radar images, wind speed data, models, etc. and half of the population refuses to believe there is a hurricane

Great news

But I have to ask for the more knowledgeable in this thread. There's no cure for this thing and there won't be for months, maybe even a year +. What happens when the Lombardy region imports a case a couple months down the road, and another outbreak starts? They just have to quarantine every single time a new case comes in?
