It’s a low Cat 2 and people are wanting a Cat 4.

This is like showing the radar images, wind speed data, models, etc. and half of the population refuses to believe there is a hurricane

To be fair it hasn’t been enough time for the lockdown to do anything. We won’t know for another week
A reasonable point, I'll give it a week. I'll feel better once Italy's rate of increase slows down, I'd hoped for some indication by now.

The only numbers that really matter are the number of major cases that require hospitalization and the number of deaths. Everything else is just a cold. If the major case number stays low like it has then the healthcare system won’t be overwhelmed unless people panic which they are doing because they’ve been told to panic.

What happens when the Lombardy region imports a case a couple months down the road, and another outbreak starts? They just have to quarantine every single time a new case comes in?
This is the big unknown. We will probably find out in China shortly if they are honest with their numbers.

Best way to keep the major case rate low is for the community to take fairly drastic measures of social distancing, disinfecting, avoiding any large groups, washing hands, etc. I think the measures already taken have drastically helped the number of extreme cases.
Also, it can often takes a couple of weeks of having the virus for these major cases to develop in the vulnerable. Unfortunately, those numbers will likely rise. We need to continue what we're doing and hopefully they won't rise to a point of overwhelming the hospitals.

And toward the bottom of the article they mention that lung function can be improved.

Heard some Dr. on the radio driving home this morning that they believed recovered people have a short term immunity (immune to getting it again during this outbreak) but don’t know if it would be seasonal immunity.

“If you don’t use it, you lose it” is an apt statement.
That is nothing groundbreaking or new, and it is definitely not specific to the Wuhan virus.

That’s correct, that’s true of any virus. No one knows how long you will have immunity. Maybe it’s years, who knows. And everyone varies a bit based on their immune system.

Has anybody read that certain blood pressure medications block the site receptors the virus attaches to? It’s not the ACE inhibitor types like lisinopril it’s the others like losarten
Posted on 3/14/20 at 1:40 pm to BOSCEAUX
Also keep in mind that not everyone has to immune. Once we reach a certain percentage of immune people then the virus becomes less effective. It basically can’t find a host very easily
This is called herd immunity
There is no good information on this yet. But I haven’t read anything that says an ACEi would make a difference in theory or practice.

And why vaccines are so important and why a-hole anti-vaxxers should be kicked out of the country.

shite, they better be. They are on absolute mandatory lockdown. Only "new cases" there are just being tested finally I'm guessing. The community transmission has got to be almost done.

This is exactly what happened in China. It didn’t slow down for a good bit. You have to remember a lot of the tests don’t even come back right away.
