I am pretty sure this is just a cultural thing and they choose to eat this stuff for whatever reason. They weren't catching them wild and eating these animals. There was a market in the city that sold it.

It’s crazy that there are cities in China no one here has ever heard of that are the size of some of the largest population centers in the us. But I guess when you have a billion and a half people, they have to live somewhere.
