I haven't been paying attention to the nuts and bolts of the government's response. What exactly did Trump do to frick this up?
Posted on 3/12/20 at 3:56 pm to BallsEleven
Have they cancelled the rest of the regular season or is it just the championships?
I know what's the point in playing games without a championship. Just insane to think they just pulled the plug on the rest of the baseball season for college.

He should have done the opposite of what he did. No matter what,

Yea, it's pretty clear from today you don't have any sort of job to worry about

If this was the big nothing burger you've been idioticly proclaiming it to be the entire time it would already be over with. Trump wouldn't have canceled EU travel. All these events wouldn't be canceled at the recommendation of health officials. We wouldn't be talking about social distancing.
Why are you not for cancelling all gatherings every single year to help stop the spread of RSV which kills thousands of babies?

All NCAA sports are cancelled through the summer

Is everyone else’s grocery stores a complete shitshow today too? The checkout lines at mine are almost to the back of the store. This is insane.

The economy is already tanking. People know what’s going to happen

To someone like me who hasn't been paying attention, I assume that's the answer from the media. This is what happens when you cry wolf every goddamn day.

don’t think people understand the economic buttfrick this is going to cause
Oh, it’s already been pretty painful and my husband is CEO of a large business. March numbers are very low and April will suck if this doesn’t turn around. I have a very clear picture of how this will impact the economy and our wallets this month and for the year. It doesn’t change anything if the government and agencies continue closures.

People don’t realize it will result in either themselves or people they know losing jobs, people they know no longer being able to provide, etc etc.

Well Trump was saying in late February that the virus was contained and would soon go away means it's pretty likely that there are some things he could have done differently since it's clear he didn't think it was that big of a deal at that time.

Ok, so what should he have done?

True but it isn't the fault of the folks posting in this thread. If I post an update about a cancellation that doesn't mean I made that call. Jesus, guys....

Can an admin create a thread just for updates? This back and forth bullshite is stupid. No one cares if you think this shite is serious or not. Measure your dicks somewhere else.

They didn’t even sticky this thread back when it was a little more informational

We already know how to treat RSV to a degree b/c it's not a novel virus so we know what to expect. It doesn't hit in waves that cause medical facilities to be over loaded.
It's not just about deaths. It's been said this a thousand times in this thread that overloading our health care facilities is the biggest issue that CV can cause at this point.
Posted on 3/12/20 at 4:15 pm to Commander Data
I think the thing that I can’t quite wrap head around is how FAST this snowballed globally
Even well after CV19 was ravaging China, it wasn’t exactly front page news here.
It was February 22nd or so when everything changed

Regardless, whether 18% or 35%, cruise ship demographics are not real world demographics. Cruise ship patrons lean heavily into the CV19 symptomatic danger zone (60+)
I agree it has limitations. But overall I think both studies you posted give us a good estimate on asymptomatic cases. The true number is probably somewhere between 18% and 33%
I think what we can say confidently is that the asymptomatic rate is not 70, 80, or 90%. Which means even accounting for asymptomatics we can still face a lot of the problems other countries have.
