these measures likely slow the spreading of the virus?
They slow the spread of any contracted illness. That’s not the point. The point is why is this warranted for this one? What makes it so special that the whole world stops? I said this a couple times now. Want to save everyone possible from this virus? Send everyone.. everyone.. home for a month. People starve but they survive the virus. The economy crashes and people become poor and die sooner but not from this virus.

My point is what exactly should be considered reasonable to save some 80 year olds in a nursing home? This ain’t it.

To ensure our healthcare system isn't overwhelmed. It isn't that hard of a concept. Look what happened in Italy. The sheer amount of people who will get this and go seek medical attention will be astronomical, whether they should or not.

So for a true 1918 type of event, we'd really be screwed.

If this had the MERS morbidity rate, we would be frickED.

It could get bad, and bad isn't cancelling the NBA season or a concert. Cancelling those is to keep us from getting to the bad point. We're trying to hold it to a moderate inconvenience, not an economic meltdown.

I'm sure there's been BR cases for a while. Everywhere probably has.

Which should make people feel a little bit better about everything.

We handled 300k+ extra hospitalizations in 2009 thanks to swine before there was ever a vaccine. This isn’t Italy.

People don't remember H1N1 because people didn't act like this when in reality the reaction to the two situations should be flipped.

You’re not funny, you aren’t making any points, you aren’t contributing to this thread. Go make your own thread dedicated to whatever it is you’re doing here.

You know what overwhelms hospitals? Every naive mom sending her whole family to the ER because baby Jax has a cough and the media told her he’s got the deadliest virus of all time that’s so bad it’s crashing the markets and everyone is canceling every gathering of more than 5 people.

You’re not offending anyone. You’re trying to be edgy and seek attention but you’re just one of many lameasses bringing stupid hot takes into this thread.

Stop twisting numbers. It’s not comparable.
