This society doesn’t know how to assess risk. Very emotional, very reactive
The most prominent and famous risk assessment expert in the world, Nassim Nicholas Taleb, has promoted major cancellations/moves (and criticized the WH in recent weeks) and is now praising the measures Trump announced.

So Gobert felt sick for a few days and is already over it
Look, it’s a new virus, precautions should be taken. But everything out there is telling us it absolutely should not be something to panic about.
This isn’t necessarily directed at anyone in here

I didnt really believe we would have mass closures until tonight. Now they seem inevitable.

He said he was ready to play tonight.

This. You will get attacked for this level headed view here though

Thanks yeah been keeping a low profile. The family is still locked down in Hubei. They are healthy, have plenty of food and other necessities but are getting restless, I'm sure.
They are more worried about us tho, tbh

Things really escalated quickly tonight between the NCAA, the NBA, and Trumps speech.

I was only asking because the press release said his condition had diminished.
Hopefully he is better.
Eta: symptoms diminished, not health. Glad he is feeling better.

There is no way there aren't 10s of thousands of Americans with this by now. The death rates are going to turn out way lower than is currently being touted when this is investigated later and it will be chalked up as an over publicized cold virus.
It’s amazing to me that billions of economic damages are being needlessly self inflicted without even asking you first.

death rates won’t be crazy and honestly I wouldn’t worry if myself had it.
What I worry about is if I were to get it and give it to my sister in law who is recovering from cancer and is about to start radiation. That’s the problem. Most of us are fine but if thousands of people are running around and giving it to people with other issues or bad immune systems then it’s no good. I don’t care if only 100 people die that’s 100 too many.
Yup
My dad has had 2 heart attacks and lives with a damaged heart, and has diabetes. My stepmom is recovered from cancer but still makes me uneasy for her. My grandparents are all old with a myriad of health issues as well.
I'm not concerned for my own well being or my household's well-being but for all of those people we all know that are old or have compromised health.

The guy no longer feels ill and he was on the bench and ready to play tonight
You don’t need to be difficult here and question whether or not “he recovered” or “has returned to health”

That dude is fricking nuts. He thinks international travel should be suspended worldwide the moment any new virus is discovered. He's completely impractical.
ETA - some of you should read his work and get back to me. Dude has fantasy land proposals.
