There is no way there aren't 10s of thousands of Americans with this by now. The death rates are going to turn out way lower than is currently being touted when this is investigated later and it will be chalked up as an over publicized cold virus.

I am glad you know more than the presidents medical expert.

The death rates won’t be crazy and honestly I wouldn’t worry if myself had it.
What I worry about is if I were to get it and give it to my sister in law who is recovering from cancer and is about to start radiation. That’s the problem. Most of us are fine but if thousands of people are running around and giving it to people with other issues or bad immune systems then it’s no good. I don’t care if only 100 people die that’s 100 too many.

Wait.
When I made the comment I think it was yesterday or the day before, my point was that traveling is cheap and the country is void of tourists. I’d have Positano beaches to myself and could just relax. It’s where my wife and I honeymooned. It wasn’t meant to be a serious post about actual being able to leave. I already have 3 trips scheduled this year. Not enough vacation.

That is why some of us have been paying attention to other countries and how widespread their testing is

I’m laughing at most of this hysteria, but I still have concerns for my mother currently undergoing chemotherapy

They will be along the lines of SK when said and done.
Italy is skewing things thanks to their population being 25% elderly.

Exactly, everyone knows a few others with risk factors. especially with the obesity problem in the country

This sentiment only exists because of how this has been covered and discussed. No one felt this way about swine or even the regular flu. If life was all that mattered when it came to viruses, wed never be allowed to leave our homes.

The president's medical experts have been an embarrassment. Not exactly the time to tout them.

My flight to Thailand Friday can't get here fast enough. May get stuck there longer than I want but can't take it here in Seattle anymore, people are freaking out and the gov is losing his damn mind.

You’re concerned if she gets any virus right? The flu, pneumonia, etc.
Let’s all get angry at those who don’t get flu vaccines. Sue them if we have to.

I bet you tell everyone you are going for the beaches. We know you are really going for the young boys.

Well obviously

I get the sentiment and all, but that's no way to actually run a country or live life.
We don't hole up every fall for flu season.

Fauci was saying today that he expects a mortality rate of 1%, in line with the initial CDC estimate of .1-1%, and in line with stats from Japan and South Korea, and far below that of Italy.
That is reasonable, and admittedly worse than the common cold.

Gotcha. I’m just a little salty because I wanted to go to Italy for vacation this year and it’s now out. A friend still plans to go this summer and will probably be fine but I can’t bring myself to book anything yet.

And that’s understandable. Hope she gets better soon.
