Now it's hard to follow and way too many arguing posts rather than info
To be fair, there isn't a ton of info.
-It is a virus
-It kills mainly old people
-The death rate is probably <1%
-It is spreading in the US
-Events are being cancelled
-Karens are buying a lot of toilet paper
There, you are now up to date.

Because It’s not comparable information. I’m going to move on. This is going nowhere and clogging up the thread with a worthless argument.
you finally realized this after 543 pages?

Swine flu wasn't contagious until symptoms had set in. Covid-19 has shown to be contagious up to 5 days before symptoms begin. You can pass the virus on to multiple people before you realize that you are even sick.
This is why we shouldn't compare it to anything. I'm gonna have to go buy the new call of duty it appears and "login" remotely for the next month.
I'm supplied the question is are you?

You must have taken my post personal or are just completely blind. Go look at the posts here and the cherry picking of data. China leveled off so don't use those numbers, let's use Italy. No mention of Germany or even South Korea. Hmmmmm, wonder why.

How do you know? It’s been stated multiple times by our own government that we haven’t even peaked yet. Everyone In here is acting like its a done deal, let it play out.

AKA people that fancy themselves as "OT Ballers" and say things like "we're overdue for a plague" then freak the frick out over a severe cold

I have talked about South Korea extensively. Maybe you are new to the thread but I am not going over everything again.
I am a physician. I am not cherry picking anything. Yes, many people are doing that for political purposes but I could give a shite about that.
Yes, ignorance makes me angry.

What early actions were taken for swine flu?
Almost none.
And it infected ~1 out of 5 people on the planet within a year.
Not too far from what the Spanish flu did in 2-3 years.
It didn’t have statistically significant difference in virulence compared to seasonal flu though.

Then why did you come after me?
I'm specifically talking about those people. If you aren't in that group stop getting upset.

Maybe I misinterpreted your “healthcare” post as sarcasm. If I did, my bad
Posted on 3/11/20 at 2:29 pm to tigerskin
You did. I completely agree with that graph he posted. That's a good road map for how we preserve our system.
Posted on 3/11/20 at 2:31 pm to Oates Mustache
The graph is pretty elementary and ambiguous. I’d like to know what “early action” it refers to and to what extent. I’m guessing it’s different for different situations. What’s reasonable here? What makes it reasonable?
If we want to save every single life possible from this thing, then force everyone into a self quarantine right now. Do it for a month. People will die from other things... starvation... lack of medical care... the economy will completely crash so we get to deal with more poverty and deaths from that.
Before anyone comments, yes I know that paragraph is extreme. It’s meant to be. That’s doing everything possible to stop the virus. And then there is nothing at all. No prep for more patients. No public info warning and reminding of good practices. No limited travel to the source country.
I keep bringing up swine because we recently dealt with something similar. It wasn’t the end of the world then. It was basic news and we handled it without canceling sports and shutting down schools with no signs of the virus. Parades weren’t canceled. So why the big difference? Why the panic in comparison?

The old saying is true, what you do to prevent a disaster or mitigate, you get judged for overreacting.
If you do less you get judged for not reacting good enough.
It's easy to post-event Monday morning quarterback this type of thing. This is just like hurricane season where people go crazy at emergency declarations and then it doesn't hit their area.
