Assuming they did (which they didn't), what measures did they take to stop it? And are those measures reasonable for a "severe cold," as one dumb arse called it yesterday?

I wish you were smart enough to go work in one of Italy’s ICU’s so you could work there and report back on the nothingness.

Reuters is reporting that there are active cases in every country in Europe at this point.

Not sure why you think China deserves a pat on the back right now.

Well, to be fair, they wouldn’t have this problem if they had as much ICU availability as the US has which is nearly triple theirs. So much for that “excellent” health care system people were touting.

ICU availability is misleading.

Our ICU is 85-100% full at any given time without any extraneous factors such as a novel virus.

I deem the need for ICU stays as bad.

And that is a big issue everybody is ignoring. These folks that have issues are needing long arse stays in ICU. You have to be a fool to not acknowledge that limiting the number of cases is a big deal.

Somehow pushing for good measures to limit cases is “panic.” Those folks in Italy sure want their ICU beds for the car wrecks, heart attacks, etc. that will
still be coming in.

But it can be the case with any URV. That doesn’t make this thing special. Just that it adds to the total. One of my first posts here said that I can understand the concern for more pressure on the system in terms of added patients. That potential exists with any novel virus.

What are y'all's thoughts on the transmission rates at this point? According to the maps that I have seen the total number of confirmed cases has gone from about 80k to 110k in the last week. As a percentage, even Wuhan (if numbers are trusted) had a low infection rate compared to its 11m person population. I guess I just expected much different/higher numbers coming out this week, as we all know how difficult it is to contain a virus, especially one that has spread globally. (This all seems like very good news)

Rare, as we have learned, is a relative term. Apparently 0.1% is rare while 0.68% is the fricking apocalypse.

As they should be. Empty beds don't make money. In all honesty, I can see the temporary mitigation of elective procedures that require a 23hr to 2 day hospital stays post op, and those receiving units being turned over for the infected, if it ever comes to that.

However, I'm in the camp that it will never reach those levels here.

Not sure if this is ITT but I just saw it in an article

quote:

Health officials say the virus can live on glass, metal and plastic surfaces for more than a week.

But good news

Apple says it’s OK to use Clorox Disinfecting Wipes and 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes on its products.

You don't think nationwide vaccination is "aggressive"?
