I'm sure someone knows but was there stats out of China and other countries on the amount of people requiring hospitalization not ICU level but just being admitted to one? Again going back to Italy, nearly half of cases require it.

The million dollar question in my mind is this:
- Is the death rate high because there are so many more mildly sick people who haven't been tested?
That theory is pretty popular and in a way is good news because it lowers the CFR.
However...
That NYT interview RDS posted (LINK with the Dr. from the WHO who was on the frontlines in China, said that it's a pyramid, mostly above ground and there aren't a lot of people asymptomatic and carrying the disease. And if they are, they quickly develop symptoms.
"There is no evidence that we’re seeing only the tip of a grand iceberg, with nine-tenths of it made up of hidden zombies shedding virus. What we’re seeing is a pyramid: most of it is aboveground."
So who fricking knows.
"I’ve heard it said that “the mortality rate is not so bad because there are actually way more mild cases.” Sorry — the same number of people that were dying, still die. The real case fatality rate is probably what it is outside Hubei Province, somewhere between 1 and 2 percent."
Also interesting that they don't think children are superspreaders. One theory is because they get so many of the known four coronaviruses.
"We don’t know. That Guangdong survey also turned up almost no one under 20. Kids got flu, but not this. We have to do more studies to see if they get it and aren’t affected, and if they pass it to family members. But I asked dozens of doctors: Have you seen a chain of transmission where a child was the index case? The answer was no."

Also, those of you who are thinking, oh well if I get it, it will be mild, read this quote. Mild is probably a lot different than what you think. I sure as frick don't want a "mild" pneumonia.
“Mild” was a positive test, fever, cough — maybe even pneumonia, but not needing oxygen. “Severe” was breathing rate up and oxygen saturation down, so needing oxygen or a ventilator. “Critical” was respiratory failure or multi-organ failure.

I'm all for taking pre cautions and people not showing up to work when they are really sick, but jesus christ are you serious? 2 people were sneezing? You think people need to stay home because they are sneezing? Some of yall are really strange.

I have friends who are flying domestically and internationally this week while they or their kids are on Spring Break and it’s kind of starting to me how nonchalant they are about the current situation purely because they refuse to cancel plans. An airport is the last place I’d voluntarily go right now

It's a good question but it may be inevitable that it will spread. Not overwhelming our medical facilities all at once will likely lower death rates but that lowered death rate comes at a trade off to the global economy (which impacts production levels of food, etc.). At what point does the global impact to our supply chains pose a higher risk than the virus itself? When people in countries start to starve by the millions, things will get very real. We aren't anywhere near that point, but we could be if this continues for 6+ months and folks aren't working.

If you ever think that a US government institution is pushing a stance, opinion, or viewpoint merely to get increased funding, take those feelings you have and multiply it by 1000 when the WHO is involved.
The UN’s health organization is one of the most politically motivated institutions out there, and they are always seeking to increase their funding.

This is the kind of overreaction I'm talking about.

If you think the CDC is a steaming pile of feces (which you should), the WHO is a steaming pile of feces 10 miles high and wide.

After gathering data from all 50 states, and surveying dozens of local officials, we can only verify that 1,895 Americans have been tested for coronavirus

Question: have y’all been given any sort of clinical treatment information updates?
Sort of an official statement from the CDC filtering through the noise that chloroquine/protease inhibitors/etc showing effectiveness in treatment?

I do when they are visibly ill and also have no real reason to be in the office. I understand there are a lot of people that don't have that luxury and you do what you can.
