Speaking of major figures possibly getting the virus, I’m watching near 80 year olds Biden and Sanders give speeches in rooms full of hundreds. They are out on the campaign trail shaking hands with hundreds nearly every day. This is a serious issue for their teams to address.

Nothing to be anxious about. This virus has been here. We just haven’t been testing. It’s not any more deadly than everyone is predicting.

Everything will be fine. We will take the necessary steps to keep it under control. More cases and deaths will be announced but just keep in mind how many people are in this country and how low your overall risk is.

Wow, you and I agree on something...

We agree on a lot in the grand scheme of things. It’s the details that we get caught up in.

I know. I just worry and it builds until I get anxious.

Thanks for the advice.

I wonder if we will see a disruption to normal life with things like flights being grounded for weeks, people working from home, and sporting events being cancelled or played in front of no live crowds.

I certainly think those types of things are far more likely than some doomsday apocalyptic scenario, but even that will wreck the markets and alter quality of life.

Yeah I have a convention in Indianapolis in late March and am curious to see if it gets canceled. And my cousin’s graduation in New York City in May.

I bet the next few weeks will be critical.

While minor in the big picture, these are things that we’ve never really dealt with before in this part of the world.

I’ll be on the front lines with Scruffy and jennBN fighting this thing. We have overcome much worse before.

There is a lot of hope on the horizon. We are waiting on the Remdesivir trials, new vaccines being tested, and I really believe that warmer weather will slow the spread.

Things are escalating slightly here but still functioning close to normal.

Question for you, we admit people daily in respiratory distress, with fever etc. Do you think at some point they will begin blanket testing? I am operating on the assumption it is in the community but it seems prudent to test people before placing them in a regular ICU bed or on a medsurg floor. Am I expecting too much?

It’s all about perspective... We can argue over what denotes”the flu” but there are school districts that shut down due to outbreaks of illness year in and out.

I don’t recall, but what was the reaction during the swine flu outbreak

I think not only will they begin widespread testing but anyone with flu like symptoms will get a chest CT. The findings can make a diagnosis much quicker than a PCR test. One thing this country has is a shitload of CTs. Let’s put them to use and make quick diagnoses.

Just what this woman needs...another way to mask pre-selected random deaths.

I agree. Just not seeing that yet. Still not seeing the impact as bad as H1N1 yet but that was less numbers and more severity. I am seeing staff start to freak out though. Anesthesia refused to intubate a questionable pt until they had a papr today. People are usually more self sacrificial but that has come to a screeching halt.

I asked a friend today, who is a NP, if they were doing any precautions prior to certain patients coming in... If they have flu like symptoms, not allowing them in or the likes, and she said no.

That is mind blowing to me. Wonder if that will change after today’s news.
