BRPD still have their beards so they don’t anticipate wearing PPE anytime soon.

I heard someone in Oregon died from Coronavirus today. So if I’m right that makes the current score.... Coronavirus 1 Influenza 16,000+ Where’s the influenza megathread? I mean if I’m gonna spend my effort shitting my pants over a virus, I’m at least going to do it over the one that’s a real threat.

Now this is a quality melt

Any info on the age/race of the death in Seattle?

A man in his 50s with underlying health conditions has died in Washington state of COVID-19, state health officials said Saturday, marking the first such reported death in the United States.

And Australia has its first death:

A West Australian man has become the first person to die of coronavirus in Australia.

The 78-year-old was being treated at Perth’s Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital but died overnight, The West Australian reports.

The man was one of the many Australians stranded on the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan.

Figured I should get this out before someone starts freaking out and posting rumors.

It’s amazing how someone dies and this thread gets rushed with people beating their chest saying that it’s not that bad

Why do they feel it’s necessary to show how much they don’t care?

If you didn’t care you wouldn’t be posting in this thread

So the info about the Oregon man is few and far in between.

Was he being treated for the virus before death or was it realized upon death?

The article just states that he hadn’t visited China or knowingly come into contact with someone who had...

Hey dipshit, did you see my explanation of the flu deaths? 16,000 don’t die of the flu every year.

Please give me your interpretation of where that number comes from

Are you talking about me? Because I'm quite anxious at the moment.

But context is important (and it helps remind myself that we're not all gonna die despite my anxiety).

The New York Stock Exchange is preparing for the possible escalation of the novel coronavirus crisis that might include closing the trading floor in Lower Manhattan, according to Fox Business. Should the outbreak of COVID-19 escalate into a global pandemic, as is expected, then markets and firms are concerned that traders and other employees might not be able to get to work.

No not at all. I was just talking about the influx of people into this thread saying that “this virus is a joke”.

They showed up hours after the first death was announced. Why? We have been talking about this for days. Everyone was expecting this and it doesn’t change anything. It’s like they had something to prove

Agree... There was no way to stop it from getting here, it comes down to a matter of will we see impacts like China (not happening) or Singapore/Hong Kong.

Nothing to be anxious about. This virus has been here. We just haven’t been testing. It’s not any more deadly than everyone is predicting.

Everything will be fine. We will take the necessary steps to keep it under control. More cases and deaths will be announced but just keep in mind how many people are in this country and how low your overall risk is.
