If this thing is jumping back and forth from animals to humans it is basically stalking us now. That would be checkmate

I heard a snippet on the radio just as the broadcast was tuning out about a distress call from a ham radio operator in China saying we have a catastrophic crisis. The world needs to know. Googled but couldn’t find anything. Could have been a report trying to quell wild rumors. I caught the tail end of it.

You joke about this but it could very well be true. I had a viral infection A week ago and still haven't shake. Off the cough. The doctor didn't even test for the flu... Just said you'll be fine in a couple of days. That is already happening on the west coast. The ability to test in small clinics isn't there. I'm not trying to be a doomsdayer but pretty sure we gonna get it in the thousands. Can't buy hand sanitizer anywhere in my city.

I’m going to do you a favor and give you a heads up of how big the foot you are attempting to put in their mouth:

All it takes to accomplish rampant community level transmission is one school aged kid to get it. Schools are known as horrible vectors. It will be this that will be the basis of argument in around 2-3 weeks when the testing floodgate reveals we have thousands of infected already and we didn’t know it.

Or put more practically, even if this were to be considered idéntical to flu.....flu makes community level spread in each of those states every year.

Is that truely the hill you wish to die on?

Right now the only information we are getting from China is information that has been filtered 10 times by the government

Can’t confirm this, but we had a suspected exposure, in discussion with the medical director who has been in some CDC Conf calls, it has been discovered that the virulence of the bug decreases each time it is passed to a new host. Patient A deathly sick, Patient B very very sick, Patient C very sick, Patient D somewhat sick etc. Might get lucky if you the 7/8/9th downstream.

Same. I've been fighting a cough for 2 weeks and ran a mild fever from last Mon - Thurs. Negative flu test.

Sincerely doubt it's coronavirus though

Generational attenuation is definitely a thing....although typically it’s not that sharp a decline.

My only question though is I feel like we would have seen/heard this from SK before US CDC if it applied to this virus.

From the current WHO sitrep covering the past 24hr period:

quote:

China:
79394 (+435) cases
2838 (+47) deaths

Outside of China:
6009 (+1318) cases
in 53 (+2) countries
86 (+19) deaths

Also, new cases in Brazil today. Reports out of Iran indicate a very chaotic situation.

I heard someone in Oregon died from Coronavirus today. So if I’m right that makes the current score....

Coronavirus 1
Influenza 16,000+

Where’s the influenza megathread? I mean if I’m gonna spend my effort shitting my pants over a virus, I’m at least going to do it over the one that’s a real threat.
