I am pretty dumb about all of this, but some have mentioned the summer heat and humidity may assist with spread. It is currently summer in the southern hemisphere, are they experiencing the spread of this virus? If so wouldn't that hint that we may not get a break once summer time hits North America?

Think it's still pretty early to say from everything I've read. This is certainly a big hope, though. Buying extra time to understand how it works/spreads would be huge. Also, with the amount of time it takes for vaccines to be tested/approved, an extra 4 or 5 months would be welcome.

I agree with your general premise, just confusion on the details I guess. Glad we can keep it cordial and hopefully we can keep the infection rate down for you

I’m not at all concerned about this virus in the grand scheme of things, but a healthy fear of the unknown (not panic) is generally a good thing for the population since that will drive behaviors that will tend to reduce the spread.

Yep

In Napa. It isn’t confirmed but we were told that the people from Travis were sent there.

Is that new cases or does that include those initially brought in from China and the likes?

It’s nice to have sniping between knowledgable people for a change.

Interesting info I found Googlizing today:

WHO H1N1 Update July 6 2009

That was 2.5 months into the H1N1 outbreak. I believe we are probably about 2.5 months into this outbreak as well. Just 2 months if you believe China was prompt in notifying the WHO.

H1N1 and covid-19 both spread about the same amount of population given the same timeframe.

Looks like covid-19 is about 4X CFR of H1N1. (H1N1 .4%, covid-19, 1.5%)

A difference among them: H1N1 targeted 20-40 year olds much harder than covid-19 has. covid hits elderly harder.

Also, will be interesting to see how seasonal changes affect covid. Just looking at the covid world map, there is not much data out of the southern hemisphere. However, summer didn't seem to stop H1N1.

Agreed. A good healthy fear and respect for risks tends to lead to behaviors that will reasonably prepare for and mitigate those risks.

Unfortunately, people usually go from oblivious to milk sandwich in an instant.

Would be classic if Americans wanted to flee to Mexico to get away from this thing but came face to face with a wall.

I've been thinking about switching my trip to Spain in May to a trip to Mexico. The question is would THEY allow ME in? Ironic.
