depends on how far of a lag the detection till mortality rate is. IE, what is the gestation period of the virus.
if 5-7 days from onset till death, the mortality rate appears to be much higher. also, china controls the news cycle. are the reported stats even accurate?

My mom and I are from Wuhan, and she's in a lot of group conversations with her friends from high school, many of whom are still in Wuhan. I don't know if this is local fearmongering or people freaking out, but apparently the accepted infected count among everyone she talks to is well in the tens of thousands. Her friends are saying there are swarms of people outside every hospital every morning, not even necessarily to stay, but just to get diagnosed or get shots/medicine. The problem I see there is that people who aren't sick with the coronavirus, but possibly with something else are mixing with actual sick people. I don't actually know how virus mutations work, but I'm imagining this gives the virus ample room to change and grow (hopefully someone says otherwise). The symptoms themselves have also apparently changed -- there was a fever indicating the start of symptoms before, but now it can supposedly lie dormant and incubate for like a week or something.
It's really scary to think they're still trying to cover up numbers -- they really need to just be transparent or the whole thing is gonna get out of hand since people outside don't know what's going on...

If they are blocking off roads with dirt, and not just setting up quarantine zones, it is much worse than they are letting on.
The Chinese will never let on to how bad it truly is.
