@SecPompeo
.@StateDept
is increasing the #China Travel Advisory to Level 4 – Do Not Travel. This is due to the spread of the novel #coronavirus throughout China & the @WHO
determination that the outbreak constitutes a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. LINK

I'm not claiming any knowledge of what CDC is doing and I have no interest in reading their RT-PCR protocols document. I just know that CDC is the only one doing the test in the US.

As of January 22nd, China was supposedly setting up 10 labs for Wuhan specifically that could process 2,000 tests per day.

Also, prior to January 16th, all Chinese test were sent to Beijing, but I believe Wuhan and the Hubei province are now testing locally. Haven't seen an update one way or the other for other provinces.

I think it is obvious at this point that Wuhan virus will wipe out a higher pct of the world than Spanish flu did

If that's true, how is it possible for the confirmation number to get above 2,000?

So when does the US bar all flights from China into the US?

Wouldn't be surprised if its soon. I'm sure this notice helps paves the way for that.

I wonder if other countries will be inclined to not report virus numbers? Smaller and poorer countries could be crippled and descend into anarchy relatively quickly, if they are cutoff from the outside world.

For Hubei? Not sure.

For what it's worth, they had ~900 confirmations today. Two days ago they had nearly 1,300 in a day.

I haven't seen any reports on capacity for the country, but it would be interesting to know for sure.

New number out of China is 9,692 cases according to BNODesk. If that is the official report (Chinese site hasn't uploaded), the rate of rise today will have been thr lowest since 1/16. Yesterday was the previous lowest rise at 29%, but today would be less than 25%.

There are lies, damned lies and statistics.

If we go from 400,000 cases to 500,000 cases are you going to talk about how much better off we are because the percentage wasn’t as bad as when we went from 1000 to 2000 cases?

I'd be pretty surprised if the US does it. Individual airlines? Maybe, but I don't see a federal ban.

If they can only test 2,000 a day, all that would mean is that there were 1,100 not positive for the virus that was tested for, not that there were only 900 new cases.

Look how mad you are when someone puts positive spin on something. Can't even hide it.

I’d keep an eye on our baw in Ontario. He said in an update that If anyone that was on his flight tests positive then they all have to stay in quarantine for 14 days.

If that pans out, all bets are off.

I’m praying he and his family are in Rhode Island before Sunday.

Like I said, I don't know what their capacity is now, but I'm not remotely surprised that some of you want to spin 900 new cases in Hubei as being worse than 1300 new cases.

Rumors are now breaking that a Chinese passenger flying
Delta DL88 from Shanghai that landed in LAX tonight was ill/vomiting and was transported via ambulance upon landing.
