Probably not. People are scared to come to the ER. I saw a guy who came in 2 days after his heart attack because the pain was not getting any better. He didn't come in earlier because he was scared of getting the Coronas.

Suicides, Overdoses, and domestic violence are up 40%.

I know. I threw that caveat in there because the data presented in the study couldn't exclude that as an option, as they weren't testing as much then and autopsies were likely not performed.

Clearly it went ignored becuase the poster above you was talking about how EMTs code things.

Still doesn't change that nearly double the amount of people died at home with cardiac arrest during that time span than comparable periods.

Study looking at healtcare workers in MA.

Appears as though virulence is decreasing.

Entire abstarct:

The hypothesis of attenuating SARS-CoV-2 virulence has been raised. We examined the temporal distribution of COVID-19 complications (ER visits, hospitalization, intubation/code, and/or death) among healthcare workers in one system that applied uniform screening criteria throughout the research period, and found the complication rate significantly decreased after April 15, 2020.

Fellow on twitter that put cases by latitude and time.

Adjusted by population.

Seasonality? Different times of arrival for the virus, meaning lockdowns didn't do much and only delayed the inevitable?

Regional lockdowns in response to breakouts are like playing whack-a-mole. A coordinated four or five week national lockdown supported by testing would have been very effective. The Feds were AWOL.

Until the next COVID positive crosses the Mexico border (or flys into any international airport). Then another 4-5 week national lockdown.

No thanks.

You think people will ever accept that there really isn't much to do for a virus?

One sick person flying in wouldn't result in a national lockdown now that we are aware of the virus and are able to test. The situation would be like what New Zealand is facing now with investigation and contact tracing.

Chest pains aren’t a normal symptom. You should see someone if they are still occurring, it may have nothing to do with covid.

He comes to tRant OT for his serious Covid-19 infection symptom relief and has since he's been diagnosed. Normal response.

I figured the first few pages would not age well. I didn't think I'd find the following only 5 replies in. I'd say quite a few of us were right to be concerned!

Swine flu
Ebola
Zika

Now this

OT loves to get riled up about the next "plague"

My statement was perfect. We should have treated this more like swine flu

This virus did not live up to the hype, but our gross overreaction did

Can someone explain why the use of cloth masks was not recommended early on? Seriously doubt there was some great scientific breakthrough. And I understand there was concern for preserving PPE for health care workers. Why didn't an authority figure explain what we hear nonstop now - the simple concept that a cloth mask can protect others by slowing the spread of droplets?

It isn't just masks.

Travel bans

Lockdowns

Etc.

You can read the years of research papers yourself. The people in charge and scientists just freaked out apparently. Even the ones who wrote the papers against these measures flipped overnight it seemed.

Fear, groupthink, and the need to "do something" are very strong.

Even though they didn’t release #’s today, it looks like LA is back under 1,000 in the hospital
