Yea that’s a good point, RCT is the gold standard but I’m pretty impressed with the matched groups.

And if there was an advantage to one group I would think the sicker group would be more likely to get the HCQ yet they showed better mortality.

Anyway, I just thought it was interesting. I have been trying to stay out of the HCQ debate.

They Blinded Us From Science

"On average, Americans believe that people aged 55 and older account for just over half of total COVID-19 deaths; the actual figure is 92%.

Americans believe that people aged 44 and younger account for about 30% of total deaths; the actual figure is 2.7%.

Americans overestimate the risk of death from COVID-19 for people aged 24 and younger by a factor of 50; and they think the risk for people aged 65 and older is half of what it actually is (40% vs 80%)."

"The misperception is greater for those who identify as Democrats"

I saw this a little earlier this morning. It's madness. The hysteria promoted by the media has done it's job well.

A few weeks ago there was a similar poll with other crazy numbers like thinking 9% of the USA population has died from SARS 2.0 or something like that.

Dude the graph has this disclaimer front and center:

NOTE: Data in recent weeks are incomplete. Only 60% of death records are submitted to NCHS within 10 days of the date of death, and the completeness varies by jurisdiction.

Now we wait to see if there is a drop below average deaths because the covid deaths were moved up in the normal death timeline by 6-12 months.

Yes, that's what the blue lines on the graph are. The light blue lines are the "corrections" for underreporting.

Time to arm the warheads?

In all seriousness, were we really ever going to take a vaccine from China and use it on our population? I think not.

Meta-analysis preprint looking at mechanical ventaliation and ICU outcomes.

quote:

Our finding that IMV itself is significantly associated with ICU mortality (pOR 16.46, 95% CI 4.37-61.96) coupled with subgroup analyses showing regions with higher ICU mortalities coincide with regions with higher IMV rates (USA, UK, Italy) are notable because it questions the benefits of IMV as well as the wisdom of public policies emphasizing ventilator availability in coping with the pandemic. The concern for potentially harmful overuse of IMV has been raised by past research, since IMV itself carries risks that may adversely affect survival [63]. Additionally, inappropriate timing of intubation too early or too late, inadequately trained or overwhelmed staff, as well as improper ventilation settings and IMV associated pneumonia can all potentially enhance mortality; and this should all be investigated more fully in COVID-19 cases.

Why are people not just given O2 instead of being put on a vent?

I think it because their bodies were becoming too tired to breathe.

Chinese study looking at index cases and their secondary attack rates.

quote:

The secondary attack rate increased with the severity of index cases, from 0.3% (CI, 0.0 to 1.0%) for asymptomatic to 3.3% (CI, 1.8% to 4.8%) for mild, 5.6% (CI, 4.4% to 6.8%) for moderate, and 6.2% (CI, 3.2% to 9.1%) for severe or critical cases.

Asymptomatic cases didn't account for many secondary transmissions in their study.

The Colorado Sun news article discussing cardiac deaths at home in Denver during lockdown compared to previous times.

Take home message is that "lockdowns" kill, and not all "excess deaths" are CoviD related.

quote:

Looking at data on ambulance calls in Denver, they found that, while overall calls for service went down during the stay-at-home period, the number of people dying from cardiac arrests at home shot up.

Heart attack deaths at home nearly doubled following the lockdown order.

quote:

Even compared with more recent data, the weekly average of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests jumped to 46 during those two weeks, versus 26 or 27 in the three months prior.

quote:

While coronavirus has killed more than 1,700 people in Colorado this year, deaths due to cancer, heart disease and drug overdose are also on the rise.

Medical article mentioned in the news report.

The 46 cardiac deaths in the two weeks following the mandate is higher than the number of Denver CoviD deaths (41) in that same period.

Caveat: It is possible these cardiac arrests were CoviD releated, as it was still early in the pandemic and autopsies were not performed/testing wasn't widely available.

When EMTs report cardiac arrest they are simply saying that the victim's heart wasn't beating for whatever reason. EMTs were reporting a death, not diagnosing a cause of death.

Probably not. People are scared to come to the ER. I saw a guy who came in 2 days after his heart attack because the pain was not getting any better. He didn't come in earlier because he was scared of getting the Coronas.

Suicides, Overdoses, and domestic violence are up 40%.
