One developing line of inquiry is the notion that China's policies regarding urban development have created a perfect storm for the spread of a virus like this.

It also doesn't help the situation when air pollution standards are so low that citizens in the larger cities are already in respiratory distress. I have to believe that with half of China's primary protein source wiped out in a year, that there may also be a slight level of malnutrition that would effect the immune system. It takes a lot of snakes and wolf cubs to make up for 300 million pork-bellies.

That's promising. 7,771 would mark the lowest daily percentage increase since China started reporting daily summaries.

It appears this update is based on the 1,100 increase in Wuhan. Remember yesterday there was a 2nd report of 500+ cases

Nah.

There were 5,974 cases in mainland China on the previous report. There are 7,771 cases today. They announced the province numbers earlier and then the total Chinese numbers just came out. LINK

My wife informed me that the Chinese national with coronavirus in DaNang has died. Is he the 1st outside of China to die?

It's a number that represents how many people an infected person can be expected to infect in a particular population (under the assumption the entire population is susceptible). An R0 of 2 means every person will infect 2 more people, on average. An R0 of .5 means every 2 people will infect 1 person, on average.

It's very difficult to measure accurately so it's estimated with mathematics. Even something like measles has R0 estimates of between 5 and 18.

And this is why I wish they wouldve quarantined all these evacuees in place first and made sure they werent sick before transporting.

(Sorry Honkus) (Maybe America did? idk)

If confirmed, I believe that would be the case.

Thought it was Ho Chi Minh?

And I don’t put much concern in it. Vietnam isn’t on the same level as the other countries in regards to healthcare that have the virus and that guy was older and actually from Wuhan.

Now if someone in the US, Germany, Japan, Singapore, etc... does, then that’s a little worse

Finland:

Five days ago: govt said no need to check at their borders
"no cause for alarm" dated January 24.

Today, January 29 Finland confirms its first Corona Viruse case

quote:

Finland on Wednesday confirmed its first coronavirus case, on a Chinese traveler from Wuhan, the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare said.

The traveler remains in isolation in Lapland’s central hospital in northern Finland, it said in a statement, adding some 15 other people may have been exposed.

From the first link

quote:

At a press conference in Ivalo, she stressed that the two patients, a father and son who arrived by land from Norway, have mild symptoms.

She said that it is "not a serious suspicion" that they have the Wuhan variation of the coronavirus, adding that it is "extremely unlikely" and "a one in a million chance".

If that weren't so pitiful, in my part of the country, someone would suggest with those odds that she buy a lottery ticket.

You’re right, it’s HCMC. Not sure why I said Danang. I’ve been googling for it for the last hour and found nothing.
