An opportunity to hear from one of the greatest scientists in the world. That is not hyperbole, BTW. His h-index is 197 (a 50 is considered an "exceptional scientist"). He wrote one of the most influential papers of all time: Why Most Published Research Findings Are False
Meh, he's nothing compared to our very own elite scientist/community college professor who spends all day every day on this site and can debunk any scientific paper in minutes.

I played golf last week and the COVID restrictions were 1 person per cart, no ball washing stations, no beverage cart, flags had to stay in the holes. Played yesterday and everything was normal. I guess it's over, at least on the golf course.

A lot of people are going to get sick still. However, it looks like the stupid restrictions are coming to an end.

When the BLM protests/Antifa riots start to lose steam, I assure you they will revisit Covid-19 with a quickness.

Nationwide testing numbers still look good. Today, for the first time in a few days, the 7-day average of new cases dropped below the average of the prior week.
So, total new cases are down, but testing is up 19% this week compared to the prior week. That's seen the positive test percentage drop from 5.4% to 4.5% -- and getting under 5% is a significant landmark in our fight against the disease.
That means that we are still eliminating the virus at a solid rate.
I also don't expect the protests to matter very much. The Japanese study showing that transmission was 20 times more likely indoors vs outdoors was very convincing, and that's why closing parks and playgrounds was always dumb.
Oh, and only 453 deaths nationally reported today, the lowest number since March.

Are there stats availability for Texas similar to LA DOH that show increase in test rates? Family member in Houston was saying cases there have gone up due to Memorial Day partying, and would like to provide more context.

This website is a great resource for state testing data.

It's getting bad where I live....

Majority of the hospitals here are owned by Banner. So when their hospitals ICUs are almost at capacity....not good.
I saw over the weekend that the COVID ICU units at the hospital I work at is also nearing capacity.
ETA: Our executive stay at home order expired May 15 and businesses were free to open up if they wished.

Hospitalizations in Arizona of patients with suspected and confirmed COVID-19 have hit a new record and the state's largest health system has reached capacity for patients needing external lung machines.
quote:
Statewide hospitalizations as of Friday jumped to 1,278 inpatients in Arizona with suspected and confirmed COVID-19, which was a record high since the state began reporting the data on April 9. It was the fifth consecutive day that hospitalizations statewide have eclipsed 1,000.
On Saturday morning, officials with Banner Health notified the Arizona centralized COVID-19 surge line that Banner hospitals are unable to take any new patients needing ECMO — extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.
ECMO is an an external lung machine that's used if a patient's lungs get so damaged that they don't work, even with the assistance of a ventilator.

Banner Health, which is the state's largest health system, is also nearing its usual ICU bed capacity, officials said Friday and if current trends continue is at risk of exceeding capacity. Banner Health typically has about half of Arizona's suspected and confirmed COVID-19 hospitalized patients.

After looking really good for months, we've had a big spike here in the past week. More that 20% of our total cases have come in the past 7 days. We set records for new cases 3 days. Our Rt is the 2nd highest in the country right now. And this comes amid a DECREASE in testing.

They said the same thing in Montgomery, AL weeks ago. I’ll take a wait and see approach.
Arizona is reporting positive antibody cases in their new numbers. In addition the increase in positives is directly linked to the increase in testing. The media is being deceptive. The same thing is happening in Florida.
All of these places have started contact tracing. We were never doing that before.
Think about it. Somebody pops positive. Now they test 100 people that had close contact with them and find a bunch of asymptomatic cases. The chances that those patients are going to be positive is much higher than the general population. They are also testing all nursing homes and jails. So they are testing high risk groups and still the percentage of positive tests is not increasing. We are running the virus out.

Yes....but the concern is that our ICUs are getting more full now.
I understand more tests means more positive. I’m not worried about that. I’m worried about the ICU capacity.
Again....Banner is THE main hospital system in AZ. They account for half, maybe a little more than half of all the hospitals here. If their are nearing full ICU capacity..,,not good.
