re: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) ***W.H.O. DECLARES A GLOBAL PANDEMIC***

So I drove from my home in north Alabama Friday to the hospital in Birmingham that treated me for a test at my employer's request. They have a lab there that is capable of doing their own tests. Takes about six hours once they get time to work on it. I got a call from a nurse saying I tested negative. Great news and now I can finally get out of the damn house. I am about to go visit my daughter who infected me. I am happy to report that I can go back to work Tuesday. It would be tomorrow but I don't have a printer to print my results from an email so I am gonna drive down tomorrow after rush hour (what's left of one) and pick up the proof to give to my employer.

On one hand, I am happy to get back to work but on the other hand this vacation has been nice even if I fought for my life for two weeks. Overall, I am blessed to have a job to go back to and since I am a supervisor over a company that services shake machines, air conditioners , coolers, freezers etc for McDonald's I am deemed essential so I am lucky to have a job to report to right now. I love my job and though I took a pay cut to take the job money isn't everything. There is a major benefit to waking up in the morning and looking forward to your day instead of dreading it because you hate your job.

Anyway folks, you all have been amazing and treated me with compassion and made me feel like one of you despite me living in Alabama. We all seem to treat each other with hate and vitriol during football season and admittedly I have developed a dislike of LSU fans over the years here. You have shown me that you guys are down to earth people with a posession of hospitality and empathy. So thanks again and when I give you shite this football season if we are lucky enough to have one remember that I still love you guys. Roll Tide.

You have to know that as much as those shake machines are out of order that I have more job security than most people here. The machines go into heat mode every night for four hours to kill any bacteria etc that may be living in there and they are broken down and cleaned twice per month. Most of the time problems arise it's because they aren't cleaning them and replacing o-rings properly. Some stores that are properly managed do it right and never have issues but it's rare.

I will say this about McDonald's to kind of get back on topic. Their kitchen employees wear gloves at all times and every hour are required to take them off, properly wash their hands and put on new gloves. When they cook meat or chicken etc they put on a different glove over the other one to touch the meat and throw away afterwards and getting a new one each time they touch meat. Cross contamination doesn't happen. Those stores practice sanitary food preparation and strictly enforce it which lessons and virtually eliminates your chances of getting sick. Cooked product is also routinely temp checked with a digital thermometer.

McDonald's isn't good for you and I don't eat there because I have eat there so much that I am burned out but I promise you that food safety is their biggest concern and they routinely check the temp of food, coolers, freezers and ensure that date/time stickers are located on all containers with food in them and when it expires it is thrown out. I strongly encourage you to eat less fast food but if there is a fast food chain that is more diligent about food safety I haven't seen one.

I had the unfortunate pleasure of running to Walmart to grab something... let me just say, there is no fricking reason any other business should be closed after witnessing that. Place was packed like it was any normal day.

Open up everything except Theaters and Sporting events... recommend everyone wear masks, stores label 6ft on floor at checkout, restaurants decrease capacity and space tables further alarm.
