They do have a rainy day a but not enough to even come close to covering the large amount of money made on large trips. I said it was a small business, and it is but a lucrative business. It is literally run out of their house.
If they can weather the storm and stay on good terms with the clients, they can start over. But the feeling is that the trust in them is not what it was. It comes down to non refundable hotel rooms and additional deposit. That allows him to book flights and hotels along with local transportation. But with the Corona Virus, they think the agreement should be void. He can refund the rooms that were able to be cancelled without penalty. But most wanted the more expensive private rooms that doesn’t give refunds to book room plus must give them a deposit, I believe.
I’ve never seen them so down about their dream job possibly coming to the end.

You keep mentioning this. I’m not feeling their pain on the “dream job” thing. Nothing lasts forever. If they aren’t financially ruined when this is over, I think they should be grateful. From the way you describe it, it sounds like it was a risky arrangement to begin with. And it worked and was a lot of fun for a while, but now they got burned. Kind of like gambling.

I agree with you.
People get laid off everyday. Businesses go bankrupt everyday. While it may be unusual circumstances for this business....welcome to the freaking club. At least they made decent coin while it lasted.

This is a little different...this is going to cause some major issues for a short term. I think everything will rebound very quickly. But it’s not like this was a bubble that popped or small sector that dried up, this is going to effect almost every sector of business outside of this like commodities and certain manufacturing.

Yeah you are kinda of right. They will be ok in the long run but it still sucks for them to not be able to do what they love if it shuts them down. It will probably just be a short term setback but the trip starting this week is back on and going to happen. They are retired and started doing this about 12 years ago. But there is a new development and I don’t know what to think. Out of 19 people that was supposed to go to Thailand, all but 4 guys backed out. Well those 4 guys found 9 buddies that hopped on board immediately to take the place of those that dropped out. Already have hotel rooms booked from those that dropped out so they don’t have to worry about that. They are just gonna pay those people for the rooms out of common courtesy. That will help their relationships with those clients that couldn’t get a refund for canceling their hotel rooms. Flights are relatively easy to book on short notice right now.
This is for just one trip though. I doubt there will be trips to Italy or any other European countries even though they are over 30 days away.
This trip is to Thailand and the new group is all excited about oddly enough.
My family is debating on not going themselves because of the risk getting back but the group doesn’t mind. At least this trip will help weather the storm if it last through the summer or longer. This buys them some time to do what needs to be done on the other trips coming up.
The new group knows fully what the risk are and chance of getting quarantined somewhere. They are all young couples and young single people in their 20’s and 30’s.
Nobody from Louisiana so at least they won’t bring the virus here if the get it.

Admittedly I didn’t. Maybe my family has. I’m gonna check on it right now. All I thought it was, was not letting anyone come in from Europe.

Your family are probably nice people, but they are in a shitty business. Time to reevaluate. Or they needed to have safegaurds and a plan of action in place like almost all companies do.

Well they arent entirely wrong. The liberals screamed that Trump was not doing anything and the panic set in well before. Trump bans travel and they scream xenophobia.
They definitely havent helped this situation.
And the Flu will still kill more people this year.
