We are getting creamed too. Contracts with school districts, large international companies, and employees that cannot see them. Gonna be a wild ride.

The economic impact has begun and will be massive when all is said and done.

Trump did address the issue in his speech. Not sure how much your family will actually be reimbursed but it definitely sounds like it will be a priority.

I, too, work in a field that requires face-to-face interactions with clients as well as making appearances in forums with 50+ people. There is a good portion of my job that involves office work (work that can be done remotely), but the two go hand in hand. If I can't do the person to person interaction part of my job, the other part of my job stalls. Fortunately I'm on salary, but I'm sure our equity partners are freaking out right now.

We lost a lot of money last week and this week when the biggest tech company in the world cancelled our flights to NorCal. Upon inquiry, someone told me that it is a liability issue and they are not letting anyone from the outside on the campus.

I’m not familiar with the travel business model, but do travel agents really put up their own money to cover their client’s cancellations? That seems too risky unless they keep insurance or cash reserves to keep them from going bankrupt.

I’m not sure how most travel agents do business but the are a small niche business that goes on the trips themselves to act as guides, especially for people who have never traveled.
They plan the logistics months in advance and have everything organized. They make their money by (not sure their rate) making sure there are no problems and with bookings for flights and hotels. It really is a demanding job for large groups. They started with just a few clients and it blew up.
They offer prices on different trip packages and clients have to send a non-refundable deposit or fee by certain dates.
Any money they save by constantly negotiating hotel, transportation and flights, becomes profit along with the price of the trip packages.
If the clients cancels at the last minute, it hurts their pocket for each one.
Now clients that had requested upgrades that required booking non-refundable rooms, have now started demanding my family return it of their own pockets even though the requested it. Saying they couldn’t do that destroyed any hope for later trips with them.
It’s a mess and not much time left to work something out.

People dying isnt the real issue. People die everyday. The underlying crisis is how this is going to destroy the economy. Thats what people should be afraid of.

Probably less brutal than bankruptcy and losing everything.

Corona virus isn’t bankrupting their business. The liberal media is. It’s exactly what they want. They are sabotaging the American people all in the name of ousting Trump.

Very sorry man. I’m getting crushed right now too . The vagaries of commerce and life in general are never ending. I also have a Trip to Greece scheduled with my son in June. I can’t imagine having to deal with all those people. Best of luck to them.

Thanks Pimp. They would wish you luck if you knew as I am now. Hope it works for you. My family will recover because they are very driven people. It will just crush significant income and slow down their traveling which is something they are probably taking harder than losing the money.
Others in this thread have suggested SBA loans and other things. I’m sure he is working every avenue he can. I didn’t see Trump say that there could be help or reimbursements coming from the government. Hopefully they can get some relief from some of those.

This is why you form LLC and separate business assets from personal assets.

You are right. This is gonna hurt the US economy based on the sheer panic that is happening everywhere. If they go, they will be quarantined even if they make it back to the US. We have told them no contact with family especially grandkids until it’s completely safe. That’s something I won’t risk no matter how safe another country is. They can have zero patients but I still let them see the grandkids until quarantined.

They would never even entertain a go fund me for this. Like someone said earlier, this is life. Life bites you in the arse whenever it wants. Others worse off will fight back and hopefully my family can do the same. I pledged a significant amount of money to stop them from going and refunding whoever can’t get theirs back. The older clients who saved a significant amount of money over the last few years to go on their dream trip or the ones I feel sorry for the most. They save what little they earn and finally get enough to go, but it could be not happening now while losing a significant amount of money. Some have saved for multiple years for the trip and can vanish instantly.

Don't they have a rainy day account to hold them over?

How does their lack of planning have to do with coronavirus?
