How is that entrapment?

They didn’t convince someone to steal it.

I can't help but laugh when people suggest that we should just give police the benefit of the doubt, no matter the circumstances.

The average local police department is a Benny Hill style clown show.

Cities like Detroit have limited police applicants so the talent level suffers big time

Happens in Nola and BR too. Honestly I could see this happening in either place

This is like in Point Break when Johnny Utah busts into the Red Hot Chili Peppers' house to bust the surfers but it is already part of a local drug sting.

Jesus Christ. I really opened that video expecting it to be a SNL skit.

Because if police wouldn't have left the bike there, they wouldn't have stolen it.

Not saying I'm against it, because I hate bike thieves more than anything. It just seems like it's walking that line on being considered entrapment.

So who is supposed to comply in this situation? People always say “if he would have just complied he wouldn’t have been shot.”

I’d go with the under covers should have complied.

It’s easy to see a uniformed cop is a cop but it takes some explaining to prove an undercover cop is really a cop.

If the under covers just comply with the uniformed cops, they could have talked it out without any punches thrown.

Given that communication was lacking, how were the guys in uniforms supposed to know the other guys were undercover?

I thought the altercation was when the two undercover units tried to arrest each other.

Look like it was actually a turf beef which led to fisticuffs after.

Where are you getting that from? Neither the video or article mentions any type of “turf war” between the precincts.

Sounds like they have entirely too much time on their hands.

Clearly they need to expand govt and create an entirely new city agency and clear up the bureaucratic mess, while keeping these guys on staff. Cant have a reduction in effective crime fighting.

Not entrapment.

Simply leaving a bike somewhere doesn't induce anyone to take that bike. It is entrapment if and only if the police somehow convince you to commit a crime you otherwise would not have.

To use your example, it would be entrapment if a cop noticed you walking past the bike and stopped you, saying "Hey, you see that bike over there? Looks like it's abandoned, I bet you could take it and get away with it." In this case it is finding someone who otherwise would not commit the crime and convincing him that, hey, maybe he should anyway.

If your definition of entrapment were true, then any crook who stole a car could claim it was unlocked and therefore he was "entrapped".

selling drugs is a crime and illegal, it doesnt matter if cops do it just to arrest people, if they sold drugs they need to be arrested and put in jail for the exact same number of years they put others in jail for selling the same drugs.

Wow this thread is really bringing out the stupid in some people
