In the scenario you described I have no idea.

you have not supplied enough information for analysis

"Better for who?" is the question, I think. Overall, I do not think they make things better. They are making sure some very specific people who paid for their detail don't get stuck.
In essence, the cop's a proxy for a traffic signal. Could be a signal needs to be where he is, but it hasn't been built. Maybe it's some transient traffic from an event that he's directing.
The problem is that the cop is biased in favor of the business that hired him. While a signal might let people into / out of that parking lot 3-4 cars at a time, the cop is going to let them out much more freely.
I also wonder about the legality of this. You often have a guy with a badge from, say, Atlanta or Duluth, bossing drivers around in Sandy Springs. He's got a badge and a gun so people listen, but does this clown actually have any legal authority where he's standing? I don't think so.

I work downtown and leave every day at the time most people leave for the day. No cops directing shite and I get out in minutes.
Took my in-laws see the fireworks downtown and it was a shite show to get out because the cops are blocking shite and directing people down ridiculous routes. It’s also a shitshow of people going the wrong way.
I guarantee there are more people leaving downtown at 4pm than there were leaving the fireworks tonight.
It’s an unnecessary waste of time and resources to make things worse.

Same experience. Any time the cops are out directing traffic, getting out of downtown becomes a nightmare. Biggest reason I’m looking forward to the library being finished is so I can take North Blvd out with less hassle.

but in 7 years (because 3 years ago it was 10) everybody will have self-driving cars and they will all interact with the thousands of other cars they interact with daily perfectly!

Better for people leaving Blue Bayou during rush hour. Worse for everyone at the already congested Highland/I-10 area.

There’s definitely more people downtown during a typical workday than there was for those fireworks tonight.

If I don’t have plans on a Friday night I’m the summer I like to sit at that Sonic and watch the fights. I’ve never gotten through my second foot long coney without at least one fight going down.

I think people underestimate how many cars come pouring out of underground garages.

Plus, think of all the taxes we’re missing out on.

True. After football games they help a whole lot.

In 49 state it makes the traffic better, in Louisiana it makes the traffic worst

So you’re saying we should have robot cops?
A robocop if you will?
A robocop if you will?

Not in St Charles Parish, those cops suck at directing traffic.
Case in point
Hwy 90 a 4 lane hwy where the speed limit is 55 at the intersection of HWY 632. They just put a light there about 4 months ago. The light goes out on a Friday afternoon and instead of getting out thier car and moving traffic through, they sit at the light and give tickets to anyone who didn't stop, traffic was backed up for over 3 miles.

The ones in Buckhead during rush hour make things worse.
