You realize the constitution has nothing to do with an altercation between private citizens right?
Now Leahy is a private citizen? He said about 15 times in the video "im a Connecticut State trooper"
The 1st amendment protects the media from government censorship and allows them to publish information without fear of reprisal.
Arrested the man for asking questions of a public servant.. sure sounds like they are trying to censor LIA.

This is just incredibly ignorant.

This is 100% true. Replace cop with Joe Sixpack and we all agree Joe Sixpack did what we would have done.
I probably wouldn’t have spit though- only because I would not have known the law well enough to be that confident.

If they went through the assault statute and there's nothing about spitting on someone,
The cops were either completely ignorant or were intentionally obtuse to protect their guy.
Assault in Connecticut does read partially like they explained. However, it also includes “acts that cause apprehension of harmful or offensive contact.”
So they are either completely inept, or outright lied to protect the guy.
I mean… you can’t tell me that in Connecticut.. if a cop visually witnesses a person spit on another person.. there is absolutely nothing they can be charged with.

Everyone is to blame in this, including the beat cops at the end. Homeowner cop has little man syndrome. "Independent journalist" relies on "well I'm just an indy journo" They should just kith and make up.
That’s pretty much the best answer.
The “journalist” is not technically trespassing because a person can approach a door under an “implied license” under the law. The homeowner can demand you to leave and if you don’t.. that is trespassing. He was technically retreating when the confrontation happened. A trespassing charge is probably not going to stick.
But the guy HAD to know there was going to some kind of confrontation and it would be good for views. And that is why this visit was made. And it’s what set off the confrontation.
The homeowner had made his point at the door and should have left it there. But he pursued because of his ego and pretty much illegally was brandishing a weapon at that point per the law. The spitting can also assault per Connecticut statute.
The cops were also just your ignorant yokels as usual that absolutely was not going to arrest another cop and was going to pin everything they could on the non cop. They later upped the charges to include ”voyeurism” which is laughable.
So the gang is protecting the gang.
So the “journalist” could have drew the line and not went there.. the cop could have told him to simply leave and that be that… and the cops should have arrested them both or neither and just send the guy on his way to avoid the absolute appearance of favoritism.

There's obviously a history between them. I'd like to know.
What kind of journalist goes to a door wearing a "Resist Tyranny" t-shirt. Come in a suit or something appropriate if you're a journalist. That said, this is the exact kind of story journalists should be covering. They usually pop up on TV sweeps week.
The cop is a psycho bitch and deserves to lose his job.

Just wondering why the Indy journalist didn’t go to the department, submit FOIA requests, or ask in public when the cop was on duty?

Yall realize you're watching a selectively edited video, right?
Did the guy with the gun spit on the dude walking backwards?

This is the trash you get in the police force when it sucks to be a cop anyway and your salary is 45k a year.
The only ones paying 45K a year to cops are small towns and go don’t really need a police force anyways.

You should've known better than to post a cop hater video here.

The tresspassing charge is legit. The brandishing a weapon and moving him off your property is is justified. The voyerism charge is bullshite. That is meant for pervs who hide cameras in bathrooms.
However, spitting in someone's face is 100% assault and he should be charged. It makes you think he was hoping for a reaction that would justify use of force.
Eta: 150k in overtime in 2 years is absurd and should be investigated.

The auditor was 100% looking to instigate that type of reaction for clicks, but he was within his rights to do it. The cop should have told him to leave and then closed the door and been done with it. It's 100% bullshite that he wasn't charged for assault for spitting in his face.

Cop stepped into a world of shite. Sean 100 percent will sue the cop. His pay will definitely come out in the trial. Cop instigated this when he could have just closed door. There was no threat that he needed to retrieve his gun, and he was itching to use it. Had there been no cameras he may have done so.
Auditors can be douches but they have exposed just how ignorant many public servants are, cop or not.
