Begged my parents for a long time for the GI Joe aircraft carrier. Never got it. Fast forward to last year and I saw it at the Texas Toy Museum. It's freaking massive. Either Pops didn't have the money, or the patience to put it together, or both.

It lived behind the sofa in our living room. Only place in the house it would fit

Had that big Shogun Warrior (Dragun)on the end next to the Alien.

Hot Wheels train set called Hot Line. Had this same exact box set. Loved the early 70s futuristic design.

Hot Wheels planes, called Hot Birds. Die-cast metal, flew on a fishing line kind of thread. Mine came with the "Maching Bird"

Still have all of my Lego sets and my 1952 Lionel train set that was handed down to me from my grandfather.

edit: also still have my BMX bike from 1984 that is still in perfect condition.

One of my favorites.

Had this one, the D9L dozer, and the haul truck. Probably burned through my weight in D-cell batteries and 3-n-1 oil for them.

I have a perfectly working Sega Nomad still and a Genesis.

Had so many great toys and Lego sets that are now worth serious money. Also sad that I'm old enough that my childhood is considered vintage...

I remember going to a lifelong friends house for the first time. He opened the garage door and there was the aircraft carrier in all its glory. Probably less than a year later we were blowing that thing up with fireworks.

For those youngsters that don't know this is a gas powered tethered car.

This predates battery powered RC cars.

You'd drive 2 nails into asphalt or the cracks in concrete. You'd then run a string through eye loops on the bottom of the car and tie it to the nails. Put gas in the car and crank it up and let it go. It only went in a straight line.

We were poor, too.

My parents managed to make sure I got stuff I wanted.

In retrospect, I feel bad because they probably went in debt for that stuff.
