quote:You just summed up a contemporary paradox of the US economy right now. There are things that literally cost way more than they did a generation ago like cars and college, then there are expenses that have just become part of our lives, like junk food, dining out, snacking, etc.
But that's the thing, you shouldn't need a "quick something," four and five days a week. I get that like rolling into Starbucks, part of it is habit, but when it costs you not insignificant amounts of markup, it's one that needs to be broken. Or stop bitching about how much a trip to the grocery store costs.
Yes, things are more expensive, and yes, Americans spend very irresponsibly
To the OP, I agree with you about the crap shoot that is convenience stores. We almost always stop at Love’s or a Buccees if we are lucky when traveling. The bathrooms are clean, the coffee is good, and it’s not a crowded mess.

there are convenience stores and crackhead stores.
You must become adept at recognizing the difference.
ProTip: if all the potato chips are off-brand and all flavored with no just basic salty chips... you're in a crackhead store.

I don’t go to “locally owned” stores unless there’s no option.
Some are better than others, but can’t stand the thick plexiglass glass, the smell, the wall of dope smoking supplies and random shite stacked at the counter, and the high probability you’ll get skimmed.

The prices are like triple what you’d pay at a grocery store such as HEB
or Walmart.
They also pay quite a bit more for their products than Walmart or HEB. Now, a lot of them do try to make ridiculous margins as well but that’s the price you pay for convenience.

I like Sheetz and Wawa when I’m in Carolina, Virginia or Philly.

That’s not what I asked. I said what town in Alabama are you comparing to these Wyoming towns

Are you just going to gloss over the history of convience stores and their important role of supplying men with easy access to nudie mags?

My only real issue is with the fountain drink machine. Its always a crapshoot as to which drinks come out right but there's a high chance the Mountain Dew will always be bad.
In my opinion the ONLY reason to go into ANY convenience store. even the vaunted Buckees, is to get a big old fountain diet coke.....and at least half the time the machine ain't working, there ain't no ice - something is amiss. In our area Circle K is the most dependable....their drink machines work about 80% of the time in my experience.

Stopping in one in Wyoming is a totally different experience than going in one here in Alabama. Fast food restaurants for that matter. I wonder why?
Lived west of the Mississippi for 4 years....traveled all over the PNW and SW.....from about Matamoros Texas to the border between Saskatchewan, North Dakota and Montana west to the Cascades and south to San Diego and back east to Matamoros, about 25% of the United States. In my experience service in restaurants, gas stations, motels, hotels and any service type business is LOUSY compared to that on the east coast and the west coast from the Cascades to the Pacific. Fast food, in particular, is LOUSY and the establishments are FILTHY. I get what you are insinuating, that black people in Alabama offer LOUSY service in fast food restaurants compared to the lilly white people in Montana. The problem with this is rooted in the fact that most of the white people in Montana who are working in a fast food restaurants are LOUSY human beings who are drug addicts and ne'er do wells and could give a frick less about a job but their PO requires it of them. Chick Fil A in this part of the world would make Krystal on the west side of Atlanta look like a michelin 2 star restaurant....just because there are a lot of white folks in Idaho doesn't mean Idaho is full of decent folks...many of them are the sorriest human beings one could find anywhere in the US.....

I fricking love a gas station. QT is GOAT around here. Reign, pack of On 8s and a roller dog.
Went to a hood store in Shreveport at Mansfield and Midway the other day that had chore boy steel wool up on the counter for an easy grab to fill the crack pipe ETA: but their fried pork chops were ridiculous.

So, a woman is inept unless her man fixes her? Head over to the Money board, and observe a dude trying to find the "right" budget software to make his wife understand what a budget is, because he's tried flowcharts and pictures and none of it worked.
Modern women, especially anxious chicks (which is most of them) are "always too busy," "always too stressed," etc., to plan effectively to relieve that stress, and no amount of us telling them how to fix it seems to work. Plenty of time for FB, IG, and mimosas, though.
