Feel like it’s quicker to go into HEB, grab something, and self checkout.

It definitely is quicker. Just requires more walking. Which is no issue to me if I’m saving time and money.

But that's the thing, you shouldn't need a "quick something," four and five days a week. I get that like rolling into Starbucks, part of it is habit, but when it costs you not insignificant amounts of markup, it's one that needs to be broken.

I don’t. I use a convenience store for buying beer because they have better prices than any place around here, including Walmart or any large grocery store. I buy a case at a time, which requires me to go there around once a week.

Also hate the ‘see cashier for receipt’ for the pay at the pump. Esp if you need the receipt for business.

You want to see someone marching in there with the red arse and have to stand in line behind the dregs of society to ask for a receipt, it’s this guy. I let the cashier know how pissed off I am as well.

I find them to be very good workers compared to the americans I run into at Walmart or FF places

At least those mfers at convenience stores show up to work every day. And when I say every day...I mean every, single, day.

A Jordanian family owns one about 2 miles down the road from my neighborhood. Every single day the father or son opens that place up at 5am and closes it down at 10pm. One time a couple years ago, they went back home for a few weeks due to a death in the family. Well, one of their cousins drove 2 hrs west from Atlanta, every morning, to run the store while they were out of town. That kid (couldn't have been more than 20 years old) was there every day, open to close, for the entire 3 weeks the owners were gone.

I can't do anything but tip my cap to that kind of work ethic. Their store is right off the highway, too. So I know they are dealing with the dregs of society. I've seen the type of people that frequent that place. I wouldn't have the patience to deal with some of the shite they put up with.

They weren't too bad long ago, more akin to a country store. Quick place to grab a newspaper, some cigarettes, a candy bar, a bag of ice, or a loaf of bread. Especially on Sundays or late in the evening, when all other stores were closed. No gasoline pumps back then, no hot food, no public restrooms. Just a decent little stop-in.

But yep, over many years they gradually devolved into trashy cesspits, becoming magnets for scumbums. The foreign-run ones are always particularly nasty. In fact, when I made a long road trip last year, I stopped at a few and was really aghast at how horrific the stores/clientele/ambiance of these convenience stores have gotten. Really creepy, third-world horrors. Another one of those little telltale signs of how fare the country and its standards have degenerated.

They are some of the hardest working people for least amount of pay you will find in America. Often they work 10-12 hours 6-7 days a week. They deal with the worst people on a regular basis where a simple sales transaction is very difficult. If it wasn't for our "New American" friends most of gas stations would not exist bc white, black and brown people would not do the work.

Stopping in one in Wyoming is a totally different experience than going in one here in Alabama. Fast food restaurants for that matter. I wonder why?

I agree and know why.

It's burned into Gujaratis, in particular, that they need to own businesses. This is why you will find them running a gas station in a place in Texas that has a few stop signs and one blinking yellow light. They're buying what they can afford, which is why they're not running a Love's or Buccees.

You mean people that show up for work on time and don’t cut out early for some bullshite excuse? What a concept. Amazing pre-Covid this was the norm if you didn’t want to get fired.

this is such bullshite. In my midwestern hometown, at least 90% of gas stations and “party stores” as they’re called up there are owned and operated by white locals

I find the ones that barely speak English 100% better than the queen that's been here forever who speaks unintelligible English AND has an attitude problem.

Not in the South. I know the white trash to which you refer working convenience stores in the midwest (via Indiana, OH, and KY), but there are a lot of Indians for us.

Southerners for the most part are too materialistic and status driven to own and operate such stores… there’s probably something to that

Of course, many times.

Chicago is the only city that really has any of that, and it still doesn’t hold a candle to Atlanta, Dallas, etc. Even cities like Birmingham and Baton Rouge might be worse. Small towns in the Midwest don’t have a ton of people who pretend to be planter class aristocrats, unlike the south.

I’m not saying that as a huge negative by the way… I actually kind of like it

It's probably because we don't want to deal with the demographics we have here.
