Being in Houston, I am curious as to the perspective of the largest minority contingent. They comprise 36% of the population, which actually makes them the majority as whites are 35%. Still, on the social landscape they are categorized as a minority.

Are they, too, subject to oppressive treatment by law enforcement (as alleged by others)? Could one argue they also have to contend with ICE......most are here legally and that’s a separate debate.

Or, are they too fearful to rock the boat?

Or, do they actually see local law enforcement in a relatively positive light?

I really don’t know and this is NOT a batch of rhetorical questions.......so, let’s try to not be monkeydicks.

Maybe they know what a corrupt police force really looks like, coming from Mexico.

We have a few bad eggs but overall they do a good job.

This should tell you everything you need to know:

LINK
YouTube link. Hispanic-American scares away protestors and tells them not to believe the lies they’re being told

Legal Hispanic immigrants are hard working and trying to live for the American dream, just like Asian-Americans and Indian-Americans. They get a bad rap from the “Bad Hombres”, the illegals mostly entwined in the drug trades. But the legal immigrants are great American citizens. They aren’t having issues with the police

i've done demographic work for political races and there isn't one answer for latinos

where they are from, where they live, how long their roots in the US go back, etc. changes a lot of variables. they aren't one solid contingent like the black voting bloc

And yet they will all support any sort of anti-white Program (e.g., they’re overwhelmingly pro immigration, pro affirmative action (except for Asians, but only when it adversely affects them)).

Interesting.

Was this outside of LA?

You may find LA is an oddball......but that does seem logical.

I live in Houston. Hispanics aren’t one monolithic voting group like Blacks. They have a wide variety of opinions and political views.

lets face it, there is only one group seriously claiming systemic racism, victimization by police brutality, and blaming everyone else for their inability to progress. It ain't Asians, Latinos/Hispanics, or Whites.

no they're too busy working (in most cases) to worry about this shite.

doubtful. But again, they aren't trying to blame anyone for anything. so they don't make an issue of it.

I would agree with this. There are so many dynamics when it comes to the Latino population, and a lot depends on which country they came from. If you think that there is discord between the states here, look at how Puerto Rican’s are treated compared to Colombians or Argentinians. Even Mexicans are looked down on by some of the more “advanced” Latino countries. On top of that, the newly immigrated do not always see eye to eye with the native born Americans whose parents or grandparents immigrated here. It is a hell of a mixed bag of internal conflict.

Now, to the outside we may not see a lot of those dynamics as they keep them within their communities, but it is very present in the newly immigrated.

natural GOP voting block. That’s why central and South American countries don’t elect or support leftist regimes.

Im hispanic and live in texas now.
I have some mistrust of police for how i was treated growing up in the new orleans area. My best friend and I (both hispanic) would get repeatedly pulled over and harrassed by the cops.
One example that stands out is getting pulled over in my high school parking lot. I lived about 2 blocks from the police station, and i was about 20-30 minutes late for school. The police car followed me from the time i pulled out my neighborhood until i got to school. The cop puts my friend and I in cuffs and sits us on the curb while ever classroom facing the parking lot is watching us. Of course we didnt do anything wrong or have anything that we should not have.

Another time, same friend and I were out with some girls(both white) on a Saturday night. Get pulled over, and the cops separate my friend and I from our female companions. I hear them telling the girls they shouldn't be out with those Mexicans because they deal drugs and they would bring them home so they are safe. Cop tells us both to kneel on the corner and my friend who had knee surgery a couple weeks before couldnt kneel. He explained to the officer why he couldnt kneel and asked if he could sit. The officer takes a baton to the back of my friends knee and "helps" him get down to the ground. The cops then search my car and take the interior apart. When they are finished, they leave it disassembled for us to put back together whith a, "Y'all have a good night." Both of us were honor students, and have never had more than a speeding ticket, but this was the type of thing that constantly happened.

However, I do trust the police to do their job properly when I call for assistance. I work closely with the police in my career, and know that the majority are great officers that do their jobs well. When i get pulled over (which is rare), i am nervous that it will be one of the 10% who don't.

Legal, yes. Of course, their kids tend not to agree as much. What proportion of Latino immigrants are legal though?

That is one aspect of most Latinos I’ve experienced in Houston that leaves me hopeful. Simply, good people.

A lot of truth here. There is a hierarchy of Latino countries and they all hate each other.

Mexicans are not bottom of the totem pole. They think they are way better than their Central American brethren, Guatemalans, Hondurans, Salvadorans, etc. And those are all based largely on “ha I am taller than you”
