It’s not that, it’s the start/stop feature. Oil doesn’t run through the turbo when the engine is off, so it’s getting cooked.
So just turning it off every time solves the problem? My wife’s Pacifica has it, and we both press the button to turn it off before driving. It’s habit at this point.

Damn shame… I’m on my 3rd Tundra and starting to think about my next vehicle

The recall/stop sale does not include 2025 models.
This sounds nuts but I’ve been hearing that people who switched to the 0w-30 or 0w-40 oil in the GM V8 trucks at higher mileages report that they run way quieter with it. It’s been a thing for those engines for years.
That’s part of the recall - switching the oil weight. Some people did that after the warranty was out anyways.
Similar trend with the 5.7 HEMI. A lot of them have ticking sounds from the valve train.
I think these manufacturers put 0w-20 in the engines from the factory for slightly improved MPG. Those engines probably need a slightly heavier weight oil.

The Tundra 1794 and Platinum trim levels look great. My favorite half tons. But I am not going to get one until they figure out how to build them.
I’m convinced the pandemic lockdowns screwed up the later stages of design and testing for the Tundra.

Why I won’t go near a new Tacoma or 4Runner.
Just bought a ‘22 Tacoma with the 3.0L V6. No turbo.
The Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, and GMC Canyon all had turbo engines.

Not sure if that was a typo on your part

Yeah, this is super important

It's like "count".

Introduce turbo engines and the reliability goes down.
*sigh*
Ill try this again. Turbochargers have at the most a handful of moving parts. Nearly every diesel engine made uses a turbocharger. Ships, locomotives, peterbuilts, all have used them for over a century.
It is not the turbochargers causing problems.

It does suck, but variable displacement oil pumps are the shittiest of the shitty new things these engines have.

Toyota peaked in 2006
The iforce 5.7 has been overall a very reliable engine. Many people were disappointed Toyota dropped it.

100%
I noticed that the 5.3L V8 from GM was quietly switched away from a variable displacement oil pump in the last couple of years with the L84. Now they have a standard oil pump. They actually sold this alongside the older L82 for a while until like 2023 or so. The L84 has a different cylinder deactivation system too.

Yes because it’s not new. The 25 models of Tacoma and 4Runner now come with the 4 cylinder with turbo … hard pass.

List is shite! The hybrid iforce engines in tundra’s haven’t been plagued with the regular turbo6 problems.
Also, Toyota will actually fix these issues unlike the domestic makes.

This is proof that you can’t make anyone happy. Many of the same people & many auto journalists were complaining about this same 5.7 liter for being “ancient” & “thirsty”.

I have the 2020 ram 1500 with the hemi. I'm holding onto the full size V8 as long as I can.
No issues with mine either.

I wonder if I should raise the weight of the oil I run in my 16 5.3? It's has had the AFM delete on it.
