Energy prices were pretty low throughout the 2nd half of the biden administration. Energy was actually a decent drag on inflation in 2023 and 2024

Increasing savings and paying beyond the normal payments on debt is suboptimal in an high inflation environment.

If you believe your dollars are going to be less in the future, you’re better off paying more of that debt in the future.

Inflation punishes savers and those who pay off debts quicker than necessary.

First link:
quote:

Inflation isn’t inexorably a bad thing
So they say it's real, just not bad.

Second link:
quote:

Americans feel inflation, economy are much, much worse than they actually are
So it's real, just not as bad as people think.

Third link:
quote:

Inflation Isn’t So Bad? Don’t Buy It
It's real, and it's worse than you think.

Fourth link:
quote:

The problem isn’t inflation. It’s prices.
lol

Fifth link:
quote:

Why the Inflation Rate Isn’t as Bad as You Think
It's real, but not as bad as you think.

Every single link acknowledges that this inflation is real.

And if those are your go-to news sources, find new ones.

Once the economy cools off and we get into the recession prices will drop. Isn’t that the plan here?

Do people really not understand anything about inflation?

Prices won't drop, they will just stop increasing so quickly.

So whether it was actual bird flu or an overreaction, it's clear that the writer of the article doesn't know what the word "decimate" means.

Deflation has been known to occur in recessions.

It’s not a good thing despite half this board begging for it

no, b/c they were lied to and told that prices WOULD come down once a certain person was in office, and not only that they WOULD drop, but they'd drop quickly...

and they ate that shite up wholeheartedly.... anyone with any sense knew this was patently false, that NO ONE can just command prices to drop by just trying to speak it into existence, but here we are...

so much winning...

Bro, Janet Yellen straight up said inflation was a “small risk”. They tried to down play it for as long as they could.

of course they did...and i can understand why, but to insinuate that it wasn't being viewed as a thing, again, is intellectually dishonest...

another poster already showed how all of the conservative leaning sources already proved that it was on the radar and acknowledged, even if it was being downplayed or even being spun...

look, i'm firmly in the middle as far as politics go... some stuff i do lean more liberal, some stuff i do lean more conservative, b/c like i said before, neither of them have it all figured out, but both sides were talking about inflation for quite a while now, with both having their flavor of "inflation" and how to go about talking about it

Well I do remember a recent time when Yellen was telling me it wasn’t an issue when it was an issue. So I stand by my statement.

Egg prices, a closely watched symbol of rising costs, soared 53% in January compared to a year ago. An avian flu has decimated the egg supply, lifting prices higher.

I keep seeing this sort of statement and agree that a lack of supply would raise the cost. However, I haven't seen a lack of supply anywhere in any size of egg. So it seems like the supply has not really been reduced and it doesn't seem like demand has decreased. Lots of people mention the cost of eggs, but still purchase them at a normal frequency. It seems like there would be an accompanying physical shortage of eggs on the shelf, but there's not.
