So how does this work? Does ICE just roll up and say “show me your employee paper work?” Or “hey employees show me your papers”??

Seriously I wonder how this goes down.

How we will ever continue to write loans ad infinitum for worthless real estate projects?

I guess muhhhhh 3/2 plastic fence abode in a shithole country neighborhood isn’t worth uhhhhh billllion dollars.

I’m not reading eight pages so maybe someone else has already said it, but skilled illegal labor has got to a point where it isn’t really cheaper than legal labor. The skilled workers figured out their worth. The difference is you have a better chance of the illegal worker giving a shite about their work.

Probably just roll up and chase the runners.

We're the same humans our grandfathers and great grandfathers were. We have the same innate talents, and take this same innate joy in making things. The issue is pay. Illegal labor drove Americans out of the industry by undercutting their wages, and making it an unprofitable career.

My experience exactly. I grew up around construction and was a decent framer at 17. Got out of it in my early 20s because the dudes I looked up to who were running crews in their late 20s said wages were shite and getting worse with the flood of illegal labor.

Ended up getting a degree and going white collar. Made a good living, but being a carpenter was the funnest job I ever had. At least I still benefit from being able to build my own stuff.

Oh and FYI- illegals take half a trillion dollars in entitlements per year. Not anymore though.

Not that I'm doubting you, but were is that info coming from? No matter what you read, there are no illegals getting social security/ssi benefits (unless a complex case of ID theft), I know that for a fact.

Nah. Only the pieces of shite. There’s plenty of construction companies that don’t hire illegals

In the Carolinas it has mostly been ICE arriving at a job site looking for an illegal who has a previous arrest and was released, then they start checking everyone’s papers.

I’m 100% in favor of sending them packing back home if they are committing crimes. Blanket deportations are going to grind construction to a halt because the workforce relies on Hispanic labor to fill job openings. Even WITH illegals, there aren’t enough worker to fill all the jobs with the construction boom happening right now.

for the record, I think it’s worth it to flush the country of illegals, but it’s going to have a massive impact on residential construction specifically.

Demand should be slowing down on houses with everyone headed the other direction.

sounds like the 'boom' was built on some shaky cards. Economic correction was needed if that's the case

The boom has been built on unprecedented relocation into the area from other regions. Schools, utility/public works expansions, bridge/highway construction, medical buildings. My inbox is flooded with RFP’s daily.

Construction is not nearly as strong on the west coast or northeast. The south cannot build fast enough.

Shits going to get real when hurricane season rolls around and people see what a roof costs.

FEMA should have billions to spare now that they aren't paying for hotels. SSA should have some surplus funds to chip in too.
